If your unit is several years old you probably have a drity laser. If you feel confident unplug unit. Remove the cover. Remove any covers over the laser assembly. You will see the lense. It points up towards where the disk would be when inserted. Using 200 proof grain alcohol and a lint free cotton swab, carefully with no pressure on the lense wipe the same until the film comes off. Blow dry with canned air. Reassemble everything and you should now be in business. If the unit still does not work you probably have a weak or defective laser and would need a new laser assembly installed. Hope this helps.

You probably got a bad capacitor somewhere in the power supply this happends because of heat and other operating conditions this can be fixed and repaired by a Tv shop in your area but at least you got a idea what it could be. also keep in mind you flyback transformer may also be culprit.

Try cleaning the lens with a CD/DVD cleaning kit that you can buy at a local eletronics store. If you have tech skills, open the player up and clean the glass eye reader lens with some rubbing alcohol using a Q-tip. Make sure the DVD you are using is not too scratched up. If it still don't work after you cleaned it and tried different disc then replace the optical reader drive

if you have a mobile phone with a camera on it put it into video mode to record a video and point your remote control at the lens of the camera at arms length so you can see the remote through the screen on the phone then press any buttons on the remote control and that will tell you weather it is working or not, you should see a light flashing on your remote control that is not visable to the human eye (the camera on your phone can see it but you cannot) you will see it via your phone camera, change batteries on remote control if you dont see the flashing light emmiting diode on your remote control. (infra red) otherwise take your tv to a repair shop,

If the screen is completely black, do you feel static from the screen? If not then you probably lost your High voltage to light up the screen. If you do feel static, and in a darkened room can see a gray screen, then you have lost your video signal internally, and it could be anything from a video IC to the microcontroller chip which would be an expensive repair. Since you see some pixels in the middle of the screen when the TV is off, I'll assume the High voltage is good, and besides the video circuits, it's possible that if you had a defect in the vertical sweep circuits, it might kill the video as well. May want to get an estimate or if it's over 8 years old, replace it.

best bet for now is to unplug the tv from the a/c and let it sit for at lease a full day...no kidding... then replug and play the tv again.

You need a dvd decoder. There are commercial programs like PowerDVD and WinDVD which have their own players, and there are a couple of free ones, called VLC and Media Player Classic. All of these are easily found with a Google search.

If you want to watch from within WMP 10, I believe it should be able to use the decoder that is installed with PowerDVD or WinDVD. There is also the PureVideo decoder from Nvidia if your system meets their specifications. Also you can install Nero DVD software.... Hope this may help; Regards, VOTIT
