Turn on power hear it

Blinking light may be a error code----look closely and see if blinks in a sequence---3 blinks, pause 3 blinks or 5,5.

The blinking light means set is in protective shutdown, Do you see a sequence to the blinks?

I am here to help.

If needed, unplug set and plug it back in and try to turn on---watch for likely error code.

Color shadowing

Projection TV sets need to have all three colors - RED - BLUE - GREEN - lined up correctly on the screen in order for the video to look normal. When its out of alignment the video will look 3D, wavy, distorted, etc. Most of the time you just need to adjust your convergence in the TV menu. If you cannot adjust it in the menu - then your convergence is broken and needs to be repaired.

This is a very common failure on these projection sets and a fairly simple DIY fix. All projeciton sets including Samsung, RCA, Sony, Philip Magnavox, Panasonic, Pioneer, Akai, GE, JVC, Toshiba, and others at some point will have the same problem.

Common Symptoms include....
  • Screen looks 3D
  • Colors don't line up
  • One or more colors can't be adjusted when using the convergence menu.
  • Screen is bowed or warped.
  • TV shuts off after powering on. Power light will blink. TV may also make a chirping noise.
Here are some photos of convergence problems.

Here is a quick test....

Using your original remote go-to the settings menu then goto the convergence section.

Try to adjust the red and then the blue convergence.

You should be able to move RED and BLUE in all directions - up, down, left, and right. And you should be able to get the grid straight.

If you can't move them in all directions or cant move them far enough your convergence chips are bad and should be replaced. This is a common problem.

Note: If you TV has as flash focus or magic focus button only try pressing the button. If it fails to fix the convergence your need to fix it. See below for a fix

You will need to replace the convergence chips and possibly some convergence resistors and pico fuses.
This is a a fairly easy DIY job if you are handy and can follow directions. You can get complete repair kits from TvRepairKits.com or click here. They have put together DIY repair kits that include the OEM parts and step by step photo instructions for each repair. If you are not handy or can't follow directions we would suggest calling a shop.

My panasonic pt-56hx41 tv will not turn on. All it

projection TV`s have integrated protection circuits
built into the circuit design, these circuits turn the
power off automatically when a fault has bin detected this
is in order to prevent a more costly repair, these circuits monitor
power supply , vertical and horizontal deflection
over voltage, or x ray, and also faults with convergence circuits.
Diagnosing these faults require test equipment and a good knowledge of
electronic repair techniques, and also a repair manual.

Panasonic (PT-56HX41PF) rear-projection tv with no picture

The three blinks indicates a convergence IC fault. The convergence ICs must be replaced with the manufacturer replacement part. Use only the original replacement part. Your set uses STK392-110 convergence ICs.
These ICs are mounted on a large heat sink. Yes, you can replace it yourself and save few hundred bucks. But you must be knowledgeable enough on how to solder, resolder and use a multimeter.
You will need:
  1. Convergence ICs
  2. Heat sink grease or thermal compound
  3. Soldering iron
  4. Solder lead.
  5. Digital multimeter
  6. Solder pump
  7. Small side cutter
Feel free to inform me if you decide to replace the ICs yourself

You need to replace the convergence chips and convergence resistors. Check the site www.TvRepairKits.com. They have put together a kits for most models. If you don't see a kit for your set send them a quick note and they will put one together for you. Their kits include a photo instruction guide, original OEM Sanyo STK chips, convergence resistors, pico fuses, etc.

Problem #2 CRT Fluid is Cloudy

Projection TV tubes have a liquid coolant that is used to keep them from overheating. After many years the coolant in the blue and green tubes will become cloudy and cause the screen to look dull, red/orange, etc. You may even see halos around images.

Picture of a set that needs the fluid changed.

PANASONIC PT47WX54J

If you do not remember your code, LOCK will unlock in
12, 24, or 48 hours, depending on the current set-up. Be
cautious when selecting ALWAYS. If ALWAYS is
selected and you forget your secret code, the TV must
be serviced by a qualified technician to clear the LOCK
set-up.
• If you select CHANGE CODE, and you change your
code from the one used in the LOCK menu, your new
code becomes the controlling code.

No sound and the power light is blinking

I had similar issue with power light blinking 3 times and no audio/video.

The problem was a burnt resistor and gone convergence ICs. I replaced both ICs (safer bet unless you know exactly which IC covers what guns in your specific TV) and the burnt resistor by myself and the TV looks good as new.

Yes the amps are most likly the problem. I would let a repair shop do this because you need to adjust the geometry for the green. It can be hard to do this.
