Sony KV-35S26 35" TV Questions & Answers
I have a Sony KV-35S26
after 4 or 5 yrs EHT ( transformer that supplies voltage to CRT TUBE - TV TUBE ) becomes weak - then few TVs ( not all TVs ) behaves exactly as you have described.............. .......so solution is EHT ( also called as flyback transformer ) should be replaced....... {{ few details about EHT---- its size will be around 3inch X 2inch X 2inch ---it will have 2 or 3 knobs to adjust focus , brightness ------ at bottom around 10 pins will be there ------- from EHT 1 thick red colour cable goes to CRT TUBE --------- on EHT its part number will be there }} -------- so if user is a technical person having idea about components ( resistors, transistors, diodes, etc ) , having tools like multimeter ( to check components) , soldering iron, soldering lead, flux, desoldering wig ( for removing components), etc also little experience in servicing field( compulsory) ----------------- then user can remove EHT from main board ---- take to electronic shop ----- buy same type EHT --------- fix to mainboard ( knobs on EHT should be adjusted according to picture --- after switching TV --- this adjustment is very important ) ----------iam from bangalore (09986222774, [email protected]) ----- here EHT's price will be around Rs 250 ( US $ 6 ) & for my customers (in bangalore) i will take another Rs 500 (US $ 11) as service charge......i don't have any idea about EHT ' s price & service charge in your place.........since it is very risky job i suggest to contact TV service engineer ------- because they are highly experienced & can fix this component very easily. ------------ [[ sometimes along with EHT another component called transistor ( big in size - situated close to EHT - it will have 3pins - its size will be 1inch X 1/2 inch X 1/2 cm --approximately ---- black in colour ----- fixed to aluminium metal ) --- will also gets deffective --- so this component also should be checked ]] ---- in your case this transistor is good ... because when this component gets deffective then TV won't get '' ON '' .............so in your case only EHT should be replaced.........100% it works normally ----- though it is 14yrs old itseems TV TUBE is still in good condition because you have said that whenever display comes picture is clear......so if EHT ( same type) is replaced then your TV will work atleast for 2 more years.....
GUARANTEE.......
Sony KV-35S66 Audio ok but no Video
Is your picture somewhat weak ? This could be a problem with the picture tube . One thing you can try is to turn the screen control up just alittle at a time to see if the picture comes in . Once it does turn off and back on to see it it comes back on again . It might take 10 to 20 seconds but if it does your picture tube is weak . The control is on the flyback transformer it is the bottom control . Or it may be on the crt board on the picture tube . One thing to check once the picture comes is the video input . If you go to this mode and see faint white lines might want to try to turn the control down a little more to see if you can get them out and the picture stays on , if not thats how going to have to watch it . These picture tubes are expensive $500.00 to 700.00 depending on which one you have . One possible other thing if you tell me the picture was a great picture almost like brand new check the horizontal section for a loose connection as this will cause this problem . Don't get shocked and be carefull , Good luck
1/3 of picture becomes partially scrambled
sounds like you have a frame fold-over fault, does banging the tv have any effect (slightly bang the set on the sides), if it does then its more than likely a dry joint, check all around the frame output chip, hope this is of some help to you
Won't turn on
HI,
First thing to do is the reset and the whacking test. I give this a 50/50 chance of clearing it up.
ONE: Disconnect the power cord for 4 hours. Then when you power it back up the internal soft codes will automatically reset to factory defaults.
TWO: The whacking test is to just bang or smack the set with your hand on the back, side, top, etc., to see if there are loose connections or cold solder joints inside that are acting up. If so, the banging should knock them back to normal and the set should restore. You might have to use some creative banging and some have had to put a book or magazine under one corner to torque the chassis enough to get it to work reliably.
If these two procedures do nothing then:
The Sony blinking code gives key diagnostic indicators, but still, it will require a tech to dig into that section identified by the diagnostic code in order to find the specific default.
Thi xbr sets are famous for AKB circuit failures. This circuit (autio kine balance) detects when the tube warm up is ready for video to be displayed. Most of the time it is due to defective AKB circuits rather than defective picture tube elements.
The repair will cost around $200....... If your set is marginally qualified for the repair; otherwise, you might be better off (financially speaking) to replace it. You will have to decide.
Goodluck,
Please don't forget to rate me as fixya..
No Power
you need to isolate the failure.
first, measure the voltage (called B+ usually) on the biggest elec.
capacitor in the power supply. This should be about 130-160
Vdc.
If this isn't here, then the problem is in the power input circuit.
If there, then the high-voltage supply is down. If the set is
anywhere near 10 years old, then replace the flyback transformer and
its transistor (H.O.T.) and go from there.
The worst case is that a power surge or something has killed the TV's brain chip and you'll have to do a board replacement.
Let me know.
No picture just sound
TURN UP THE A1S ON THE TRANSFORMER IF YOU SEE A VERTICAL LINE ACROSS THE SCREEN ITS A FAULTY FRAME IC CHECK FOR DRY JOINTS AT FRAME IC, REPLACE WITH A NEW IC IF NO OTHER FAULTS ARE VISIBLE.
