My sony t.v would not

Hello,
The issue you describe is consistent with a power supply board issue. This is the board where the AC goes to. This problem may have occurred as a result of irregular power supply, or excess power supply or power surge.
The TV is receiving current but cannot circulate or transfer the current to other necessary part of the TV because of the defective power supply board. You might be lucky it's just a blow fuse. Also a defective transformer can cause your TV not to power on.
All these can be checked on the power supply board.
But more often bad capacitors causes problem on the power supply board. I do not think the power board needs replacement, rather those defective capacitors is causing this issue. Open unit up and take a look at the power supply board. You will probably see one or more electrolytic filter capacitors that are bulged up in the top-not perfectly flat like the others.
The value of these capacitors will be different, most likely they will be somewhere around-820 to 2200uF/25 V( or /10V sometimes)
You can replace them with same values but I would recommend the voltage rating to be higher(like 35V for an original 25V) for reliability purposes.
What happens is,these bulged top capacitors will cause a low and unfiltered DC voltage=main board will malfunction(the relay will keep clicking until the caps are holding enough charge to bring the voltage up over a threshold point).
You can buy these capacitors at any Fry's or Radioshack store or you can order them online at vendors like "mcmelectronics.com"(look for electrolytic capacitors). After replacing these capacitor(capacitors) most likely the normal operation will be restored. Or you can by a refurbished complete power board to save you some stress.
Note: There may be also some other causes for this symptom ,like a defective T con board ,or main board, but the bulged top capacitors are the most common cause for this issue.
If you don't know about TV repairers, take the TV to the nearest repairman to fix the fault for you. Also, note that TV stores a lot of current, so wait a while before opening the TV back cover.
I hope this helps.
Regards.

Hi, I have a Sony TV which is showing the 5 blink

I can confirm that 5 blinks of the led means "unable to set grey scale" and I expect the software can no longer cope with the error.
You could try boosting the tube with a tube booster but it may kill the tube completely. In the old days we used to fit a 15% overwind for the heaters but that only gave us a few months on our rentals.
A new tube will fix it.
Try looking for a regunning facillity on Google. That will save you a small fortune!

I have a Sony trinitron tv that will not turn on.

ONE: Unplug it for at least 4 hours. That is what we call a hard reset.

TWO: If the hard reset does not help, then it will need further diagnostics.

The following bulletin may be of help in your learning about what is going on. Please refer to it below. Then let me know if you need further assistance.

Have a great day,
Cleggsan

Sony Blinking Codes
Many of the later model Sony TV's have a built in Self- Diagnosis function. If
the timer/standby indicator is blinking, this could be an indication of the
problem with the unit. The diagnostic blinking will occur automatically with no
action required by you to engage it.
The timing of the blinking you see would be as follows: two to eight blinks
(depending on the fault) about a third of a second apart, then pauses for 3
seconds, then the two to eight blinks about a third of a second apart again.
Here is a list of the problems that might have occurred indicated by the
number of blinks. The words in parentheses are those which you will see for
each of these faults on a diagnosis screen described later in this article.
Unit is dead and there are no blinks---Problem in the standby power
section. Might check fuse, R607, Q601, IC601, R612 and VDR601 (should
show open)
Continuous Blink Once A Second, No Pausing As Discussed Above---
No reply from the jungle IC301 (data bus is busy, shorted to ground or held
high), IK video path is defective.
ONE Blink--- not used for the self-diagnosis
TWO Blinks---B+ over current protection (OCP) , unit goes to the standby
mode then displays the 2 blink fault. Could be a short in the power supply of
any of the circuits.
THREE Blinks---B+ over voltage protection (OVP), unit goes to the standby
mode then displays the 3 blink fault. This is also a problem in the power
supply circuit, check T603 and R672.
FOUR Blinks---No Vert. Deflection (V STOP), Screen goes to a single
horizontal line then the video signal muted. Check IC1509, Q1505
FIVE Blinks---AKB circuit (AKB), the timer/standby indicator blinks for about
30 seconds then goes to the self-diagnosis function. Something is wrong with
the video. Check video out, Q705, 732, 761 and other components on the C
board, also check Q218, 219, 220 on the A board. Also unit be in IK blanking,
try turning up screen slightly.
SIX Blinks---No Horizontal (H STOP), no raster, goes to the blinking selfdiagnosis
function immediately. Check C515 & 516 and the jungle IC, IC206.
SEVEN Blinks---High voltage shutdown. The high voltage has exceeded 33k
and the unit goes immediately into safety shutdown. Check power supply
regulation and horizontal circuits.
EIGHT Blinks---Problem with the audio (AUDIO), unit goes to standby and
blinks the self-diagnosis code. Check IC406 audio amp, PS401 and 402.
Intermittent problems ?? This is a great feature. You can also bring up
these fault codes ON-SCREEN to see a list of the problem numbers with the
abbreviation of the problem and the number of times this problem has
occurred. This is slightly different than entering the service mode. To see the
diagnostic screen, Press the following buttons:
Display, Channel, 5, Vol Minus, ( Not plus ) then Power. This brings up
a screen with a list of the problems and number of times they have occurred.
Each of the problem names is abbreviated as, "OCP", "OVP", "V STOP", ETC.
We have repeated them in parentheses in the text for the "Blinks" described
above so you can correlate between the diagnostic screen and the blink
codes.
So, now that you know about these self-diagnostics, how do you use them?
Say that you have a set with a black screen. You see that the LED is blinking
4 times....This would tell you that you have no vertical and that is why the
video is muted. If it was blinking 6 times, you would know that you have a
horizontal fault.
It's not a sure cure, but it's a little better than a poke in the eye with a sharp
stick.
IMPORTANT: after you repair the unit, PLEASE clear the values on this
diagnostic screen. These codes do not reset themselves after the fault is
corrected, so if you don't clear them, you'll be seeing "old" fault codes the
next time you enter this screen.
Clearing is done by going into the service mode ( display, channel, 5,
volume plus, then power ) then press 8 and Enter, which of course returns
everything to the factory preset condition.

SONY KV-32S35 PICTURE FLASHES IN AND OUT

Your description can be from a number of types of faults. This can possibly be from the power supply or one of the scan circuits. On more rare occasions, the CRT can be arching or on the edge of spec, and thus the protection in the power supply is triggering.

The best way to fix this is to get the shop service manual, a DVM and a scope, and follow through with the schematics to locate the area of the fault to begin with.

If you don't have a solid knowledge in electronics for TV servicing and a lot of experience, I would not advise you to service your set. I would think you would be best off to take in in for an estimate.

When going in to a TV set yourself without experience and training, there are serious safety issues.

Television troubleshooting

the symptom is usually caused by a breakdown in the power supply circuit. in most modern receivers (transistorized and/or ic), it may also be caused by a breakdown in the horizontal deflection circuits (hor. oscillator, pre-drive, or drive circuits). supply voltages for the tuner, vif, sif, and vertical output are usually supplied by the horizontal output circuit. but if you doesnt know anything about these stuffs, better bring it to a qualified service tecnhician
