I had an electrician come over. He pulled out the bulb that was dead (for me it was the color that was flashing before it would turn off) and now I have a blue and green TV with no red. He said that the only way to fix it is to replace the red lamp with a new one.

My tv screen turns red as it heats up and the repairshop told me it would cost $600.00 for a new red projection gun how ever I don't think thats the case because it is a heat related issue. I think an ic or transistor is going bad and goes into saturation when it gots warm. I will be spraing some components with freeze spray and if my hunch is correct the color will temporarly correct its self when I spray the right component.

Sounds like a convergence issue. Call Sony for an ASC that can come out and give you an estimate. You are probably looking at $200-400 to do the repair.

If the whole screen turns a bright blue and shuts down then you may have a bad blue crt. This will need to be replaced plus adjustments/alignments. Get an authorized Sony servicer to do the repair. Good Luck

I can help you out here. This may be a bad red crt(picture tube) If you see curved vertical lines across the screen then it sounds like a shorting crt. You will definetly need a Sony authorized servicer to replace the crt. Get an estimate first. After so many years it's not to uncommon for the crt's to go bad or short. Good Luck
