Hi,I have sony projection tv

You will have to install a convergence repair kit which will consist of both convergence ICs and the 8 associated pico fuses and the 4.7 ohm resistors will also need to be checked. Your model uses the Sony type 1 convergence kit. If you want to know where you get one they are available from www.tvrepairworld.com they do include the parts and the CD with repair instructions.

3D look picture in rear projection tv is due to

Projection TV sets have two very common problems. One is convergence ( 3D/Warped video) the other is CRT fluid ( Dull Video). Here are more details and solutions for both. Repair kits with instructions are also avail from www.TvRepairKits.com

Common Problem #1) Convergence has gone out

Projection TV sets need to have all three colors - RED - BLUE - GREEN - lined up correctly on the screen in order for the video to look normal. When its out of alignment the video will look 3D, wavy, distorted, etc. Most of the time you just need to adjust your convergence in the TV menu. If you cannot adjust it in the menu - then your convergence is broken and needs to be repaired.

This is a very common failure on these projection sets and a fairly simple DIY fix. All projection sets including Samsung, RCA, Sony, Philip Magnavox, Panasonic, Pioneer, Akai, GE, JVC, Toshiba, and others at some point will have the same problem.

Common Symptoms include....

  • Screen looks 3D
  • Colors don't line up
  • One or more colors can't be adjusted when using the convergence menu.
  • Screen is bowed or warped.
  • TV shuts off after powering on. Power light will blink. TV may also make a chirping noise.
Here are some pics of convergence problems.

Common Problem #2) CRT Fluid is Cloudy

Projection TV tubes have a liquid coolant that is used to keep them from overheating. After many years the coolant in the blue and green tubes will become cloudy and cause the screen to look dull, red/orange, etc. You may even see halos around images.

Can you be more specific? Do you mean the color tints are wrong or is the color out of alignment ( 3D appearance)?

Convergence problem

Usually what happens is that the convergence IC goes bad or the fuse going to the convergence ic goes bad. Pico fuses they are called sometimes open up. You may want to open it up and pull the board out and check the solder connections on the convergence IC. Sometimes these get fractured or cold soldered and aren't making connection to the PC board.
Let me know if you feel comfortable with pulling TV chassis out or pulling the board that has the convergence IC on it out. Then you can resolder convergence IC OR replace it.First thing i would do is check to make sure there is between 22vdc and 25vdc on the fuse or the convergence IC. Let me know if this helps out any.... Sincerely HDTV GURU JAY

Your set uses two STK392-560 convergence ICs they are attached to a large heat sink on the D board. You can save your self about 400 for a twenty minute repair by getting new ICs at the following link as trhey provide free instalation instructions with pics so you can do the job yourself. It only requires basic soldering skills I would order about six 4.7ohm 1/2 watt resistors as well just in case you need them asusually sonys' will burn one or two of the 4.7ohm convergence resistors when the ICs fail. Heres the link

Tv won't turn on. A clicking noise. stand by

Hi qss7.

I had a similar problem with my 42 in Philips LCD HDTV. I may have the solution to your problem.

Here was MY problem. My Power Supply Board had several bad capacitors. I opened my TV (warranty was expired of course) and found four bulged capacitors on the PSB. Many major electronics companies Philips/Magnavox, Sony, Panasonic, and others were sold capacitors that failed in 2-5 years instead of 10-20. The capacitors fail prematurely due to a lack of preservatives. Unfortunately, they were installed in all sorts of devices and cause a wide range of failure problems.

Here are some options for you to consider.

1. Have it fixed by a professional $$$$$$$??????? (Is it under warranty?)

Remember, TVs CONTAIN HIGH VOLTAGE AND CAN KILL YOU! Do this at your own risk.

2. Open your TV and find PSB. (The board that the power cord plugs into) Check for faulty caps. If you find some (bulged or leaking) bad caps replace the entire board. They can be found online. I would definitely shop around though.

3. Remove and then replace individual faulty caps. This takes some soldering skill.

Caps are inexpensive and if you can take care of it yourself it will save you hundreds.

This may be your problem. If you determine that it might be.

I have a Tip/How TO tutorial on this site that may also help. It will, at the very least, give you a general idea of the process. It gives step by step instructions for replacing caps on PSB #715t2432-2. If this is your board you are in luck. Here is the Link: Fixing the Philips Turns/shuts off on its own problem.

Hope this helps.

If you have any questions for me, please comment on this page. I will be happy to assist you to the best of my ability. Thanks for using Fixya.

My picture is blurry and discolored.

THAT KIND OF TECHNOLOGY IS PRONE TO WHAT ARE CALLED CONVERGENCE FAILURES. PROBABLY THE MOST COMMON FAILURE HAS TO DO WITH THE CIRCUIT THAT KEEPS THE 3 PICTURES FROM EACH OF THE PICTURE TUBES ALIGNED TOGETHER.

Hi,
To connect the Blu-ray player to the TV, connect the Video OUT of the Blu-ray player to the VIDEO 1, VIDEO 3, VIDEO 4 port on the TV using the "RED/WHITE/YELLOW" Composite cable to get both audio and video. You may also connect the "Component OUT" port of the Blu-ray Player to the VIDEO 5 and VIDEO 6 port on the TV using the (Red/Blue/Green/Red/White) Component cable to get both audio and video from it. If you have any questions on connectivity, you may wish to reply with your query.

The problem you are experiencing is known as "convergence issue". It can be fixed by replacing the two STK convergence ICs. But before that did you try adjusting the convergence from the menu, by aligning the R,G,B crosshairs?
