Everything works except the unit that turns the
could be a simple spindle motor failure...or possibly the laser assy...the way it works is the laser needs to "see" a disc when it loads into the player. If the laser is defective, then it won't "see" a disc, thus it won't play...sony parts aren't cheap..especially if you are talking about replacing the whole transport...see if you can give the spindle a little spin with your finger and then try it...it may start working...you want to try to narrow the problem down to a single component in the interest of cost...

My Sony disc player cx-355
was this player loading discs before and how long have you been using the player. I suspect that the lens of your player is weak, that's why its not loading disc.
Its either the lens is very dirty, or the laser (lens) is weak.
Get a cotton board, open the player's cover with a screw driver in order to gain access to the lens, and use the cotton board to clean the lens thoroughly. After the cleaning try again.
If the player still does not load after you have cleaned the lens, then it mean the lens is weak such that it cannot be revived. In this case you will have to replace the lens completely to a new lens.
Go to any electronics accessories store within your vicinity, and get a new lens. You can remove the old lens and use it as a sample to get the new one.
