I got a plastic vcr
If the tape is that important, you need someone who is familiar with vcr's and how they work, or technician. There is no easy way to explain what must be done to get the tape out in one piece.
I put a tape in
With a little dis-assembly, the tape can be saved without any problem. The main issue is that this is really not a DIY repair. There are dangerous high voltages present inside the unit even when unplugged. I would not suggest you attempt to retrieve this tape. The repair cost for parts will be about $10 (belts). Check with a few local repair shops. They should be able to help with this at a reasonable price. A complete refurb of these types of units can usually be done for less than $100 total. I refurb these all the time.
Hope this helps,
Dan
It was working perfectly until I hit the pause
I believe that the tape must have fowled up and the mechanism has gone haywire and now out of sync. Every video has a mode switch. This tells the electronics what position the mechanism is in. However if the mechanism develops a fault, the mode switch will no longer be able to tell the electronics the true position and thus chaos develops, so the whole thing shuts down. You need to investigate to see if the tape is entangled or damage has occurred.
I have lost the remote
These folks have a broad range of originals which are not cheap but will give you all the features you had originally;
Remotes
If you want to use a 'universal' remote, you may be disappointed. Before buying one of these, check the mfr.s website with the model number to see if your VCR is included.
All features may not be supported in a 'universal' remote since none of them really are or ever can be.
Magnavox VCR has a stuck VHS tape, need to remove
Well I have done it by, remove from power and wait 10 mins, then removing the cover and locating the white worm drive & motor usually at right side of tape tray, then manipulate that worm with your fingers and "Wind" it out.
Emerson vcr won't accept a tape
Yes, it can be fixed, but the cost may not be worth it.
There are several components which may be the problem, ranging from a gear, a sensor, the load motor, or it may even require replacement of the entire cassette loading assembly.
Without an inspection, it's impossible to tell exactly what the problem is, or likely cost to repair.
It may be much cheaper to replace the machine.
Tape stuck in VCR, won't eject.
depending on th einternal design of the vcr. look for the loading/unloading mech, by finding the blak rubber belt that is looped from the motor to a pully. now turn it one way. it may thak 25 to 50 complete rotations of the belt. try turning both ways, one will load & 1 will unlaod.
good luck.
Vcr taping
You need to run the autotuning feature on the tuner setup page.
It doesn't yet know what channels are available to it and is defaulted
to the minimum.
Hope Ya Fix it!
Where's the Tracking Button?
If the speed originally was LP, that would explain the problem. Many new units will not properly play LP tapes. Do other tapes play Okay?...accordianman
How to retrieve a stuck tape in a VCR
Unplug the VCR, take the cover off, find the motor (probably on the
right side of the mechanism) and turn it's shaft with your fingers
until you have run the tape back out. Now plug it back in and try
it again with a scarificial tape. If it continues to fail,
replace all the rubber belts in the mechanism.
Hope ya fix it!

You may be able to download a copy of the manuel for free from the Emerson web sight, but normally, most web sights that offer manuels, charge for them. As for the remote, you should be able to find a standard universal that will program to the unit. If you want a factory remote, you may also order it on line at the Emerson sight. Good Luck
