I set the timer to record a program. When it has recorded the program an I want to watch it it turns it self off directly. In the indexwindow a small blue circel whit a c in it. is showing. I have been able to record programs with the timer succesfully for a couple of years and now this problem suddenly appears. When I set the timer a small lock is showing in the top left side. I have tried to find out if there is some kind of childlock but it doesn´t seem to be like that. Really greatful for a solution :-) Harriet

For a *long* time I had to put up with a wonky EPG that would often display empty listings or would crash the recorder (power down followed by a red flash from the DVD bay). I recapped the power supply in hopes it was the cheap caps they used - no luck. Fortunately I discovered the fix is relatively easy and (most importantly) dirt cheap! You will need a set of small Torx screwdrivers, a pencil eraser and a sharpie marker (optional but it is a big help). Open the case with the appropriate torx driver and you will see numerous circuit boards with a bunch of white and blue flat plastic ribbon cables. These cables are the cause of the EPG (and possibly other) malfunctions on this unit. Philips in their less-than-infinite wisdom decided to use these cheap and failure-prone alternatives to normal connectors. Pick any of the cables to start with and carefully unplug one end. Grab your pencil eraser and make sure there is fresh (ie uncontaminated) eraser on it. Place the silver end of the cable on a rigid surface that will allow you to hold the cable in place while scrubbing it with the eraser. Scrub the silver contacts with the eraser and try not to let any of the eraser debris fall into the recorder. Wipe off the contacts with a soft cloth to catch the eraser debris and mark the white section of the cable with the sharpie so you know you've cleaned this end. Plug the cable back in and repeat for the other end. Now repeat this process for all the cables in the unit. You probably don't need to do it for the hard drive cable but it couldn't hurt. Just be sure the cable's silver side goes into the side of the socket with the pins. You might want to take a picture or draw a diagram for reference. After this fix, my unit hasn't crashed *once*. Hopefully this will help other Philips DVR owners. Weirdal1968
