Also, it is approximately eight years old, so general wear and tear during this period of extended use may have cause some of the seals to lose their efficacy, thus allowing the ingress of water. Since this was salt water, it is hardly surprising that the media card is unusable.

Remove the battery from the camera for 15mins, replace the battery then go to the camera's Menu and scroll through the settings to Gate & Time then set the correct Date & time.

Either it has received a knock or other accidental blow, or else there is foreign matter (dirt, crumbs, grit etc) in the mechanism. It would cost far more than a replacement camera to have it serviced, I'm afraid, and is certainly not the kind of task to be attempted without expert knowledge.
