I have a philips magnavox and had two problems that I recently fixed using kits from www.TvRepairKits.com. I can't say enough about their kits and help. Without them I would have never been able to fix my TV set myself.

The first problem I had was the TV was looking 3D. After doing some homework I found out that this is a convergence problem. I bought a kit, followed the instructions, and to my amazement fixed it myself.

After building my confidence with the 1st repair I decided to get their CRT fluid kit. This kit fixes the dull video, red video, or bright/halo looking video. If you have a magmavox set that is more than 5 years old your tv has this problem already. It happens on every set. As before I bought the kit, followed the instructions, and now my video looks factory new. Once again I wanted to say thanks to the team at Tv Repair Kits for putting together kits that the average joe can use.

It would be best if you check the speakers, there's a possibility that they might be blown up.

Philips 60PP9352... | Answered on Jul 31, 2009 | 53 views

check to see if you have speakers sitting too close to your television. the magnetic field from them can produce a condition called gaussing. newer televisions will eventually correct themselves while older ones will have to have to be degaussed by a technician

You have one of two problems. Sometimes both.

Problem #1) CRT Fluid is Cloudy

Projection TV tubes have a liquid coolant that is used to keep them from overheating. After many years the coolant in the blue and green tubes will become cloudy and cause the screen to look dull, red/orange, etc. You may even see halos around images.

What you will need to do is replace the coolant and clean the crt. You can get a repair kit from www.TvRepairKits.com that includes replacement coolant, photos. instructions, etc.

Problem #2)

Your TV may have a convergence failure. ( common problem )

Here are some of the most common symptoms and example photos of a convergence problem

  • Screen looks 3D
  • Colors don't line up
  • One or more colors can't be adjusted when using the convergence menu.
  • Screen is bowed or warped.
Here are some photos of convergence problems.

Here is a quick test....

Using your original remote go-to the tv settings then goto the convergence section.

Try to adjust the red and then the blue convergence.

You should be able to move them up, down, left, and right.

If you can't move them in all directions your convergence chips are bad and should be replaced. This is a common problem.

You will need to replace the convergence chips and possibly some convergence resistors and pico fuses. Its a fairly easy DIY job or you can call in a pro. If you want to do the repair yourself check the site www.TvRepairKits.com. Their kits include a photo instruction guide, original OEM Sanyo STK chips, convergence resistors, pico fuses, thermal paste, email/phone support, etc.

You might consider changing the convergence chips. They do more than just adjust convergence in your set and they're pretty inexpensive.

Without examing the set. IN general as a techs when they hear chirping noise is an indication of what is know as a Bad Flyback transformer; You may possibly have a shorted Horizontal Output Transistor or both that will need replaceing.

The two STK392-120 Convergence ICs needs to be replaced and also some of the 6.8 ohm 1watt resistors will usually need replacement when the ICs fail. You can get the kit for your model which includes both ICs and all 12 of the 6.8 ohm resistors plus step by step detailed instructions for your model. Heres a link to the repoair kit for your model.
