You can try to Google the model number with "manual" for this older set or try the Philips website---any authorized Philips service center would have direct access to that database.

Mitsubishi will have a VS, WS model number.

Most will have a date made on the rear and ones after about 1998 have a self check.

If green power light comes on for a few seconds and goes off:

On the front of the set (not the remote) press and hold BOTH THE MENU AND INPUT (input on some models is Device) FOR AT LEAST 5 SECONDS AND RELEASE BOTH.

Power light will blink a 2 digit error code like: 2 blinks, 2 blinks a pause and repeat it several times.

If you have unplugged the set that clears the error code and you will have to plug it in and try to turn on again--then do the check.

Let me know what error code you find and I will tell you what it means--2,2, is the most common one.

Projection TV sets have two very common problems. One is convergence ( 3D/Warped video) the other is CRT fluid ( Dull Video). Here are more details and solutions for both. Repair kits with instructions are also avail from www.TvRepairKits.com

Common Problem #1) Convergence has gone out

Projection TV sets need to have all three colors - RED - BLUE - GREEN - lined up correctly on the screen in order for the video to look normal. When its out of alignment the video will look 3D, wavy, distorted, etc. Most of the time you just need to adjust your convergence in the TV menu. If you cannot adjust it in the menu - then your convergence is broken and needs to be repaired.

This is a very common failure on these projection sets and a fairly simple DIY fix. All projection sets including Samsung, RCA, Sony, Philip Magnavox, Panasonic, Pioneer, Akai, GE, JVC, Toshiba, and others at some point will have the same problem.

Common Symptoms include....

  • Screen looks 3D
  • Colors don't line up
  • One or more colors can't be adjusted when using the convergence menu.
  • Screen is bowed or warped.
  • TV shuts off after powering on. Power light will blink. TV may also make a chirping noise.
Here are some pics of convergence problems.

Common Problem #2) CRT Fluid is Cloudy

Projection TV tubes have a liquid coolant that is used to keep them from overheating. After many years the coolant in the blue and green tubes will become cloudy and cause the screen to look dull, red/orange, etc. You may even see halos around images.

Could be a couple different things.. clicking sounds like it may be the power supply, or it could be the bulb as well. My suggestion is don't sink money into repair it will be costly and not worth it considering you can purchase a 55" LCD for $650 now with a superior picture quality. Spend about 1.5K and you can get a fantastic one.

hi, i'm having a similar problem and was wondering if you ever got yours fixed? i've found the FBT, it's located on the bottom right side as you're facing the back of the TV and it has 3 red wires coming out the top. mine, i've noticed, sparks once when the tv is turned on. i can't find a replacement part for under $300. any suggestions?

Your TV most likely has one of two possible problems.

Problem #1: Convergence Chip Failure ( common problem )

Here are some of the most common symptoms and example photos of a convergence problem
  • Screen looks 3D
  • Colors don't line up
  • One or more colors can't be adjusted when using the convergence menu.
  • Screen is bowed or warped.

Here is a quick test....

Using your original remote go-to the tv settings then goto the convergence section.

Try to adjust the red and then the blue convergence.

You should be able to move them up, down, left, and right.

If you can't move them in all directions your convergence chips are bad and should be replaced. This is a common problem.

You need to replace the convergence chips and convergence resistors. Check the site www.TvRepairKits.com. They have put together a kits for most models. If you don't see a kit for your set send them a quick note and they will put one together for you. Their kits include a photo instruction guide, original OEM Sanyo STK chips, convergence resistors, pico fuses, etc.

Problem #2 CRT Fluid is Cloudy

Projection TV tubes have a liquid coolant that is used to keep them from overheating. After many years the coolant in the blue and green tubes will become cloudy and cause the screen to look dull, red/orange, etc. You may even see halos around images.

Projection TV sets are known to have two common problems. The first problem that is common to these sets is convergence failure. When this happens the TV will usually look 3D, Wavy/Distorted, etc. It may also shutdown and blink an error code.

The second common problem with Projection TV sets is dull video, halos around objects, white looking video, or red overpowers the screen. This is commonly caused by the fluid in the lens being clouded over.

It sound as if you have convergeance errors.
To adjust the convergeance, follow the service manual's instructions as if you don't, the controls are interactive and it will be difficult to complete a reasonable adjustment.
Hope this helps.

That is not an hdmi cable input that is a vga type connector with the 2 rows of pins.Get the manual out then call "Radio Shack" to get the right connector.

Philips 55PP9363... | Answered on Oct 01, 2010

LOOK at attached photos and if they look anything like yours you have a convergence problem.

Most of the Philips sets use either 2 of the STK-392-120 OR a few use the STK-392-110 (NOT INTERCHANGEABLE PARTS).

WITH SET unplugged and back cover removed they will be on far left board on side by side metal plates with fins (heat sinks).

Set will need to have chassis in "service position" to replace them and I can tell you how.

TOTAL PARTS COST IF PURCHASED ON EBAY will be under 25 dollars total.

If the photos or this information helped you rate this solution as very helpful as I do this here for free.

I can assist you with this repair and most can do it themselves.
