These procedures are from the owners manual, go into menu and then picture quality and then: Convergence The Convergence feature lets you adjust the TV’s three tubes. When the TV tubes’ images are precisely aligned, they create the color images you see on the screen. Over time, the picture can drift out of alignment (this is normal). If your picture seems fuzzy or has a yellow tint, using Convergence could correct this misalignment. Only one convergence is needed for all inputs, regardless of the signal format. Note: Make sure the TV has been on for at least 30 minutes (TV needs to warm up for best results) before starting Auto Converge or Red/Blue Centering. When you select the Convergence feature, a submenu appears with three options: Auto Converge Automatically aligns the projection lenses to self-correct color images. You’ll see flashing squares of color dance across the screen (this is normal). Note: After performing auto convergence, use the Blue Centering and Red Centering menus to fine tune convergence in the center of the screen, if necessary. Blue Centering Aligns the blue and green images to fine-tune the picture. Red Centering Aligns the red and green images to fine-tune the picture. Note: The ability to change channels is disabled when adjusting the convergence options. The TV must be tuned to a usable signal to converge the picture.

Problem #1 - CONVERGENCE PROBLEM

Projection TV sets need to have all three colors - RED - BLUE - GREEN - lined up correctly on the screen in order for the video to look normal. When its out of alignment the video will look 3D, wavy, distorted, etc. Most of the time you just need to adjust your convergence in the TV menu. If you cannot adjust it in the menu - then your convergence is broken and needs to be repaired.

This is a very common failure on these projection sets and a fairly simple DIY fix. All projeciton sets including Samsung, RCA, Sony, Philip Magnavox, Panasonic, Pioneer, Akai, GE, JVC, Toshiba, and others at some point will have the same problem.

Common Symptoms include....

• Screen looks 3D
• Colors don't line up
• One or more colors can't be adjusted when using the convergence menu.
• Screen is bowed or warped.
• TV shuts off after powering on. Power light will blink. TV may also make a chirping noise.

Here is a quick test....

Using your original remote go-to the settings menu then goto the convergence section.

Try to adjust the red and then the blue convergence.

You should be able to move RED and BLUE in all directions - up, down, left, and right. And you should be able to get the grid straight.

If you can't move them in all directions or cant move them far enough your convergence chips are bad and should be replaced. This is a common problem.

Note: If you TV has as flash focus or magic focus button only try pressing the button. If it fails to fix the convergence your need to fix it. See below for a fix

CONVERGENCE SOLUTION

You will need to replace the convergence chips and possibly some convergence resistors and pico fuses.
This is a a fairly easy DIY job if you are handy and can follow directions. You can get complete repair kits from TvRepairKits.com or click here. If you are not handy or can't follow directions we would suggest calling a shop.

adjust the ASPECT RATIO of TV using the MENU button....remote control if an original will have a button on the remote to change ASPECT RATIO on TV....ZOOM button can cause that also!

These TVs have a self-check at turn-on, and will retry 3 x and then quit. Self-checks are like current overloads,voltages not present, IC communications not good, picture tubes not running. Can be anything without checking circuits.

That color won't work good. On RPTVs, Red bad = blue-green pic; Green bad = purple pic; blue bad = yellow pic.

Try another method,get the same result.Ur tv have a S-Video connection in ur tv?Use that the S- Video cable,and that connection.Than use the RCA Red,Yellow hook up for the audio.

Thanks for using FixYa. From what you have described it seems that you have to replace the convergence IC and also check the power resistor, if values are not exact you have to replace them. These ICs are located behind the black heat sink; you can see once you open the back off the TV. Also, the convergence board should be checked for cracked solder joints and please make sure to check the resistors as if they are shot the ICs might blow again. All this is only recommended if you have electrical expertise and know how to solder/re-solder components, if not then you should get this done by a professional. The typical cost to get this fixed by a pro is around $300-$350. Please do accept the solution if the issue is resolved or else revert for further assistance.

Well, my first guess would be a blow fuse, did you check for that?
But if you smelled something burning, then even if the fuse did blow, it failed to protect something; probably the main power transformer. That's a coil of wire in a sort of square shape that should be near the fuse. Its hard to tell if they're burnt sometimes, but it may need replacement.

One of the following may be misaligned. i) Aspect ratio of your TV may be wrongly selected. i.e. select 4:3 in place of 16:9 or vice versa with your Remote . ii) Picture Width or Height may be wrongly adjusted. With the help of Remote, select MENU go to PICTURE option, reduce height or width which ever is needed.
