My picture is bowed

Hi jwalkera15,

Sounds like you, my friend, have a problem in the convergence circuit. The good news is that it is typically fixable for far less than replacing the set. The bad news is that it is not something that I recommend that you tackle yourself. I don't fix my car, I let my mechanic do it because that is his profession.

I small "mom & pop" shop should be able to handle this reasonably, provided it is not something catastophic like a bad DCU. In my shop the average for this job is between $200 and $250 depending on parts cost. I'm telling you what your local shop will charge - just what I do. Bear in mind that this is for a repair in the shop. You will save money by avoiding a service call to the home and taking it to the shop yourself. A 47" set is small enough to fit in the back of a standard mini-van. Take out the seats, put down a blacket and gently slide the set in on its back. Yes, on its back. It will be just fine. I delivered rear projection sets on their backs for almost twenty years and they all survived!

Good luck!
Rob

You will probably need to replace ALL of the CRT's and do a Full Convergence Alignment by a very experienced tech. Never replace only CRT as it will be brighter than the other two CRT's.

Samsung HDTV 1080I-Model#HCP4363W-Convergence Problem

These sets need to have all three colors - RED - BLUE - GREEN - lined up correctly on the screen in order for the picture to look normal. When its out of alignment the video will look 3-D, wavy, distorted, etc. Most of the time you just need to adjust your convergence in the menu. If you cannot adjust it in the menu - then your convergence is broken and needs to be repaired.

Hi

Thanks for using FixYa. From what you have described it seems that you have to replace the convergence IC and check power resistor for leakage, if values are not exact you have to replace them. The typical cost to get this fixed by a pro is about $300 - and it doesn't mean that he/they will do a job better than you do. The parts are less than $100 (about $20-$30 for the IC's) if you want to do it yourself. Replacing only the IC's MAY solve the problem; however, many people have also had blown resistors requiring replacement. Why would you ask should you replace both of the IC's if only one is shot?! If one is shot the other one is not far away and for that little price of the chips it worth changing them both at the same time. Also the convergence board should be checked for cracked solder. If you replace the ICs and the resistors are shot, the ICs may blow again almost immediately, meaning you may have to do the repair twice. Please do rate the solution if the issue is resolved or else revert for further assistance.

Thanks
Rylee
