I replaced the lamp in my sb21, but now the right side of the projection is dark. left side is clear and sharp but starts to go dark about midway across. Could the new bulb just need to be cleaned?

Try taking the lamp out and reinstalling it - it may not be all the way in. If this does not help, a polarizer or filter may be bad. It's going to be hard to get replacement parts for this old projector that is at least 11 years old. The only other thing I can think of is to try a factory reset - look through the menus until you find this.

How do I find the color wheel and clean it

The best answer I have found for this is listed here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Digital_Light_Processing If you scroll down the page, you will actually see a diagram as to whee the color wheel is located and, how it functions. Someone took the time to take pictures of the projector and the internals for use in showing how light emits thru it. Hope this helps.

HP sb21 lamp

There is a very picky sensor on the lamp cover. When the lamp and cover are seated perfectly, your lamp will start.

My SB21 projector worked fine

Welcome to FixYa.

The first step is to change or try a different projector cable. Though a projector cable may look fine on the outside, we are not able to see the inside.

Make sure also that you are correctly pressing the correct buttons to send the signal to the projector. Most laptops use the combination of "Fn" + "F7" (or F5) keys in the laptop keyboard to send the signal to the projector. Sometimes you need to do this twice or three times.

Keep me posted.

Video image is mostly yellow. Just replaced bulb.

The Image Optimization slider button is on the All images menu. The range of the slider is from 0 to 10. The 0 end is labeled with an icon that looks like a piece of movie film. The 10 end has an icon that looks like a bar chart. When you move the slider, it changes how images are optimized. At setting 10, brightness and contrast are maximized. At setting 0, color reproduction quality is maximized. Settings 1 through 9 are intermediate settings. The default position from the factory is 10 for the computer input, and 2 for the other inputs (video, s-video, component-i, and component-p). It is assumed that people making presentations from a computer want high brightness and contrast, and people running video probably will control the room lighting more and want better color reproduction. The projector has two independent memories for the last set position of this slider. If you are watching from a video input, you might change the slider to 5 to get a bit brighter picture. From then on, the new setting of 5 will apply whenever any of the four video inputs are used. The computer input has an independent memory for the Image Optimization slider setting, which can be set only when a computer input is connected and selected. You can set the computer and/or video to anything you wish, 0 to 10. If you do not like the colors when using the computer input, you can try lowering the slider number. If the output seems unexpectedly dull, you might want to increase the slider. If the highlights (white parts) in video images look "pasted on" or "burnt to white" then you may want to lower the slider settings.

Hi it sounds like you have a ne missing on the VGA feed to your projector, try using a composite lead to see if it is the same it should be ok also you can try using the menu see if the white is white when menu is pressed if it is then it is the lead, it possible could be the VGA socket but i have never seen a faulty socket so unlikely.
