Toshiba 42H83 42" Rear Projection HDTV-Ready Television - Page 6 Questions & Answers
42H83 Convergence
Yes the convergence ICs need to be replaced, however so dont the six 1.8 ohm 1watt resistors as Toshiba recomends replacing those six resistors when the ICs are changed. You can get the 50H71 / 50H82 Convergence repair kit as the 42H83 is identical to the 50H71 series, so the kit will work for your model. Heres the link where you can get the kit.

How to replace lamp and what lamp do I use
Turn your TV off, take the front grill off your set. Your lamp is secured with screws, just unscrew and take out your lamp. You can find a lamp on Ebay for the best price. Make sure you use your model number and brand name to find the correct one.

recall.Some excellant soldering will be needed
for prevent maintenance,for instance,the steel
jumper wires feedig b+ to convergence IC's.
RE-align in servicer mode==final step.
Toshiba 42wt29b. screen keeps turning blue
MMMM Hard call here. The fact that it does try to come on blue maybe an indication that the power supply regulator circuit is good. It could also be a shorted blue tube and when it comes on its overloading the screen drive and the set goes into overload protection shutdown. The real way to see Would be to pull off the blue crt socket as well as the Hi Voltage lead on the crt and see if the set comes on without blue. If it does Your gonna need a pict tube. If it dosent then troubleshooting along the switched power supplys would be neccassary.. BUT I advise you THAT IF YOU HAVE NO EXPERIENCE TROUBLESHOOTING TV SETS PLEASE SEEK A PRO TO ASSIST YOU AS THERES VERY HIGH VOLTAGE INSIDE THESE SETS EVEN IF THEY ARE UNPLUGGED. GOOD LUCK
Sound but no picture
the board that powers the crt is the high voltage board and the boards connected to the guns.
Toshiba 42h83
It is common problem in this unit. Toshibia has a service bulliteen to service shops about this unit. It involves replaceing 11 16microfared surface mounted capacitors on the cuircit board known as :HYPERMODULE. I am currently got one of these in front of me now at the shop and the repair is rather difficult .,, removeing the board take alot and then repair the board take some doing ... you must be an expert at soldering surface mount components, i would not recomend this for a non tech. but on the good side your set is repairable.
Screens broke
You can go to
www.tritronics.com and use your model number to see if they are still available . They are somewhat easy to install by removing the speaker grille on the bottom thus exposing the screws hold the frame that secures your screens . Sometimes the screws are on the back side holding the screen . Send a picture of your tv if you think you might want to try it yourself . The screens can be expensive . Also try to call around to see if a repair shop might have some used ones that will work with your tv that are in good condition . Could save big bucks . Good luck
