Red vertical touch screen adjustment is not moving
Most likely two convergence IC's bad (STK392-110).
Check for bad power resistors also connected to these IC's. I have more 25 years experience in repairing electronic products but replacing the IC's can be a pain, you need a good soldering tool, must remove a lot of circuit wiring and must take out the whole PCB. Must change both IC's at the same time not just one because it may fail in a short time. I have
a 42H83 at home and I have experience the same problem, this unit based on my observation does not have enough ventilation, if the air openings at the back is blocked like placing it very close to the wall the convergence IC's overheat and fail. What I did to my unit after I fixed it is I removed the front black plastic cover (take off several screws) and just leave the front black cloth cover on it. It provides awesome air circulation and it's been over three years now and the TV did not give me any problem at all.
After reparing you must do a complete horizontal and vertical alignment of the Red, Blue and Green guns to get a vivid picture by using the remote control.
My Toshiba 42H83 has developed
Alot of rear projection t.v.'s have a convergence option in the menu on the t.v. There you can set the try to set the colors back how their supposed to. Mine has a cross in the middle of the screen and you just have to try to get all 3 colors to line up. Unfortunately, the actual lens inside mine has to be aligned so it doesnt work. Just something to try though, hope it helps.

Since this morning my Toshiba 42H83 TV's picture
Go into the customer menu for the TV. Select convergence and if you find the colors are skewed or will not align you have a convergence problem.
I am going to post a few photos here of what this looks like--not all will look the same but you will know if it is your problem.
If it is your problem I can tell you what is needed to fix it--for many it can be a do it yourself repair.

Picture is distorted on my toshiba 42h83 audio is
Distorted in what way WAVEY? there is a problem in the past with 11 very small capacitors that can cause this did it help when it warmed up? The trouble is these capactors can be replaced. but it take someone whe can do very difficult solder called surface mount. i do maybe 2 a month its very labor intensive i am not saying this is the prblem but this set does have that history
The power light flashes but
Hi
Thanks for using FixYa. Flashing power light means that a part inside the TV is faulty and needs to be replaced. You'll need to open the back off the TV and check for blown/swollen capacitors on the power supply board. Capacitors leaks due to which these issues occur. All this is only recommended if you have electrical expertise and know how to solder/re-solder components else it is always good to contact a qualified repair tech.
Please do accept the solution if the issue is resolved or else revert for further assistance.
Thanks

Need to put convergence chip on tv and dont know
If you have never soldered components on a crcuit board you should have this done by a professional. It's a pain to install conv ic on this set . Difficult because of the way the heatsinks mount. I have 30 years experiance and don't enjoy it. If you have never done it before don't.
Hi, my tv shows a
you have a convergence problem
it will require a couple new ics its best to replace as a pair stk392-110 although i recommed using the stk392-150 as a replacement and also there are some jumpers that should be resolderd on those boards to assure continued operation hope this helps you
The screen is shaking horizontally. It does this
42H83 is a Toshiba first made in 2003.
What is wrong (98% chance) is the HYPER BOARD in this set is now failing----all signal from all inputs is processed thru this board.
Considering the board is now only available on a rebuild basis----and the cost for this is well over 200 dollars not counting labor to remove--replace--set, unless you know someone who is VERY GOOD AT SOLDERING-----not worth repairing.
What happens here is this board has close to 20 surface mounted filter caps---with time and heat they dry out---usually the time before the problem clears up will get longer and longer---leaking caps may start to function to some degree after they get hot--hence the time from dead cold until the set works.
Most caps have 2 leads and are soldered through the circuit board----these are very small caps with tabs on them----and are soldered to the top of the board.
I am sorry to give you not so good news--but based on your description---I am sure it is your problem.
Call around your area telling them model number and you suspect it is a bad HYPER board---if a shop can actually fix it(replace the caps) parts cost would be under 30 dollars---
Any authorized Toshiba repair shop can go online and see the service bulletin for this--they have a large color picture of the board and indicate which caps have to be replaced.
