Hello
If you are using this TV with Cable connection, the strength of cable signal is low. Contact the cable operator and ask him to put a signal booster at your premises. If you are using it with On Air transmissions receiving, include an antenna signal booster at the mast of your yagi antenna on roof. OK

HI,you might wish to unplug the TV for an hour or more. If this power reset does not allow the TV to turn on component failure is indicated. These sets are assembled using the wave soldering process they are known for having cold solder connections.

The safety circuitry shuts the TV set down or will keep it from turning on when it detects a problem. This model of TV has over 2,000 parts, which includes millions of transistors inside the integrated circuits. The capacitors will change value, leak and become defective. Resistors will change value and burn. Diodes and IC can go bad.

This may have a domino effect and cause other parts to fail. Replacing one defective part may make the TV operate for a short time but the part will fail again if the parts that caused the failure to begin with are not replaced.

The only way to know for sure which parts that are no longer within factory specs and for a proper repair all the electronics must be diagnosed by someone with the correct electronic test equipment specifically designed for TV service and the skills to use the test equipment. I wish I could tell you there was a quick fix or button to push that would fix the TV but that is not the case or the solution needed to get the TV operating correctly.

You have a convergence board failure. Changing one board will not necessarily fix it. It is recommended to change all 3 boards in the unit. many try this as a DIY and fall afoul because it is a specialist job to re-tune and reset the parameters. The cost then becomes greater than if a tech did it correctly the first time. Be advised it is not a simple DIY.It requires soldering and de-soldering skills, specialized tools and a knowledge of circuit diagrams.

Thanks for using fixya

This can be corrected. You will need to use caution. Pull the back cover off. You will see a flyback transformer. You will note, that a suction cup is connected to the back of the picture tube. Follow the red lead and you will see the flyback transfomer. You will also see, two potentiometers on this transformer. The top knob will correct the focus you are talking about. The bottom knob will increase or decrease the voltage to the picture tube. Just work with the top pots. It will say focus on the knob. Turn back and forth as you watch the lettering of an informational program. This will be helpful. Thanks for asking and show all hands of support!

Resolders the FBT-(flyback tranformer).Resolders the video board connections sockets holes, that the board connected to the CRT-(tv tube).Plug in the tv,to have power to the tv,take out the tv video board, for exposer of the CRT-(tv tube).Take an electrical wire with a good insalation in it,grounded to the tv steel frame some where.Take the other end of the wire go toward the open high voltage CRT-(tv tube).U will hear a pop sound, than ur tv CRT-(tv tube) is a 100% clean out of contaminations or u will hear a deeing sounds only, mean the tv CRT-(tv tube) it is to old to pop anymore, just let tv deeing sounds going on for like about 20 mins to rejuvenated the old CRT-(tv tube). After this repluging the tv video board for a tv signal and readjust the button on the FBT-(flyback tranformer) that said focus to fix the CRT-(tv tube) focus problems.

Blurry tv

Sounds like theres a leaky capacitor in the screen drive circuit. I have seen this problem also be a gassy crt but was able to clean off the grids of the CRT with a crt/rejuvinator. It happens because of low emmissions in the tube and when white is on thats a mix of all the colors, so the tube works harder. I bet when you whatch a movie and the scene changes suddenly to a white or brite scene the pic looks a little washed out. If this is not the case then I aggree with the Pravin and try it on another TV just to be sure .. This is not a repair for a consumer to do, though however it is only a three year old set you stated, so there should be life left in the tube, so im kinda thinking a capacitor is bad. Seek out a yechnician to check this out for you as a TV is not a place to see it you can fix it or to exoeeriment with. Good Luck

The Toshiba sets are well known for vertical problems, if the problem is bad enough it will cause the tv to shutdown to protect the picture tube. To properly diagnose the issue a tv technician will be required.

The Toshiba sets are well known for this problem, the tv has a vertical deflection issue caused by the vertical ic and a few small capacitors going bad, I recommend a tv technician for the repairs.

I HAVE A 36A40 AND

The thin line in the middle of the screen usually means that there's a defective component in the vertical circuitry. This is something that needs to looked at by an authorized technician and is not something that you can repair by yourself like replacing a busted fuse.

But if you're competent enough, you can trace the defect by starting from the Flyback transformer and looking for the pin that usually gives 24-26 volts and you may need to do this while the unit is on. You can check the capacitor ratings that are along the circuit as that will give you an idea on how much voltage is running thru. e.g. If the voltage is 12V, the capacitor is usually rated at 24-25Volts. Along the circuit, there are diodes and some resistors that usually fail due to heat. If all components along that circuit passes individual testing, that means the Vertical IC is defective and needs to be replaced.

** But please do not attempt to do this since we're dealing with dangerous high voltages and there's a risk of being electricuted and/or death. You have been warned!! **

12-year old TV is flickering - is it just too old?

Hello
Most of the electrolytic capacitors in your tv may be dry, that is degraded in capacitance. There is no other way than replace all of them with same type, capacitance and voltage rating. Normally electrolytic capacitors degrades with time. Your TV is 12 years old. So most of them has expired its life time. A 1000Mfd rated capacitor will come down even to 200Mfd with time.Ok.

Channels keep changing

ok, let's try the simplest things first.... unplug the tv from the wall, and remove the batteries from the remote. wait about 5 or 10 minutes. reinstall the batteries and plug the tv back in. try it again. actually since you said you tried another remote, you can skip removing the batteries from the remote. if it still does it, try unplugging the tv overnight. if it still doesn't work right then, you have a processor problem, and need to have it looked at by a service tech.

I have 2003 toshiba tv .lighting strick tv went

Unless you are a trained technician I wouldn't recommend attempting this yourself. The place to start looking is with the horizontal output transistor (probably shorted) and the B+ fuse (probably open). But again - this is not recommended for amateur repair. You could get hurt.

Activation of toshiba starsight pbs

Hi.

Star Sight closed down, and the service does not work anymore.

I quote:

"
Main article: Star Sight
Similar to Guide+ was Star Sight, [10] with its decoders built in to TVs manufactured by Zenith, Samsung, Sony, Toshiba, Magnavox, and others. This was an electronic program guide service similar to Guide+, but was a service that relied on monthly subscription fees paid by the user, not from revenue gathered from on-screen advertisements like Guide+. Star Sight discontinued operations on July 21, 2003, due to a lack of subscribers to the service. Star Sight's data was also delivered on the VBI of local PBS stations through the PBS National Datacast division, much like how WaveTop was delivered as mentioned previously in this article."

Regards.
