In a APEX set change the convergence chips (2) AND use the original remote to adjust the set. There are several sites like TV parts.com that sell kits based on brand and model number.

Projection TV sets need to have all three colors - RED - BLUE - GREEN - lined up correctly on the screen in order for the video to look normal. When its out of alignment the video will look 3D, wavy, distorted, etc. Most of the time you just need to adjust your convergence in the TV menu. If you cannot adjust it in the menu - then your convergence is broken and needs to be repaired.

This is a very common failure on these projection sets and a fairly simple DIY fix. All projection sets including Samsung, RCA, Sony, Philip Magnavox, Panasonic, Pioneer, Akai, GE, JVC, Toshiba, and others at some point will have the same problem.

Common Symptoms include....
  • Screen looks 3D
  • Colors don't line up
  • One or more colors can't be adjusted when using the convergence menu.
  • Screen is bowed or warped.
  • TV shuts off after powering on. Power light will blink. TV may also make a chirping noise.
Here are some photos of convergence problems.

Here is a quick test....

Using your original remote go-to the settings menu then goto the convergence section.

Try to adjust the red and then the blue convergence.

You should be able to move RED and BLUE in all directions - up, down, left, and right. And you should be able to get the grid straight.

If you can't move them in all directions or cant move them far enough your convergence chips are bad and should be replaced. This is a common problem.

Note: If you TV has as flash focus or magic focus button only try pressing the button. If it fails to fix the convergence your need to fix it. See below for a fix

Hi

Thanks for using FixYa. It is convergence (STK) ICs (Chips) which needs to be replaced and not the convergence board. It’s not a difficult job if you want to do this yourself. To start with you’ll need to open the back of the unit and then replace the ICs (STK ICs) which are located behind the black heat sink and also check the resistors as if they are short the ICs might blow again after sometime. There are repair kits available which includes repair instructions with the parts. Please see the pictures to recognize STK ICs (Chips) shown with arrows---

Here is your manual if all it is is adjustment. It most likely is the IC's that go bad that handle the convergence circuits. It is not hard usually, but you do need some electronic skills to get this done right. Brad

This TV probably uses two convergence IC Packs that will need to be replaced and be re-converged. There may also be a resistor or two that may need replacing as well. The projection tubes should last another 3 years or so.

If you are using a cable box, go into the general settings on cable box, use cable remote. Go to "viewer power on", and you can chose what channel you want the tv to turn on to .

The circuit board on the right hand side is either cracked or the soldering came loose, I took mine apart and found it by mistake, everytime I pulled up the board i had picture again, so I propped up the board with some dumb-dumb and it has still been working, there are no parts for this TV

If this is the clear smooth screen, yes you can go to your local glass & paint store & have a new protective screen cut for that size. If this is the screen with thin lines etched in it from top to bottom..vertically is the Lenticular lens & no there is no way to repair, you must replace, with new or used. Go to ebay under projection tv parts see if you can locate someone having your size for sale & bid on it or email them to outright purchase it.

If you have homeowners insurance and can file a claim on it, perhaps your insurance adjuster knows of a shop that could handle this problem. Most likely you will be needing the power board replaced, p/n 8667200700T unless it can be repaired. The schematic for this set is not listed as an available part for this set (In the future it would be very wise to stay away from any manufacturer that does not support what they make). After restoring power to the set, you could find that there are other problems such as a defective tuner or audio/video problems due to the power surge. It may be possible to fix the power supply without a schematic if that is the only part that has been damaged.
