Hi;
This is and usual indication of a poor spindel motor that needs replacing it is the motor that spins the disc, it is the most common failue in DVD's and CD plyrs. You can't just replace the motor you will have to replace what called the mech assembly which will include the spindle motor/Laser/stepping motor etc...
Do I need to throw
Not if the unit itself still works; that is, it still plays videotapes and DVDs (with picture and sound).
Check your TV, you may have the wrong input selected for your unit (and/or other connected devices), or the TV is on the wrong channel; hence why you can't see anything from the VCR.
As for the ComCast box, give them a call and ask about it - quote the box number, and ask if it is digital or analogue - if it is the latter, they should replace the box free of charge as part of your cable subscription.
You do not need a new combo unit, unless you want one later which has a digital tuner. All it means is that you have no analogue TV channels in your combo unit.
Will this system copy vhs
Yes, it has the function to do so. Some VHS may be protected but the vast majority will be fine. Look into the manual that comes with it or post a comment and we can post one.
I have a GoVideo dvr4200 dvd/vcr combo and the dvd
You could have a faulty motor that opens the door. You can test power to the motor with a voltmeter. If there is power and motor doesn't turn, then it is bad. If no power to the motor, than there is a bad component on the main circuit board.
You can always try and stick a paperclip in the tray and pull it open manually. Once it is opened, slowly pull it back as far as it will go, then press the eject button and hopefully it will fix itself which can happen.
DVD'S SKIP
Open the top cover and remove the laser housing cover. You should see what looks like a door-hole peeper which is the top lens on the laser itself. Using a "lightly" windex coated Q-Tip carefully clean off the top area of the lens and put the covers back on...
If the unit still skips then it's probably time for a new pick-up table and it will require a bit more testing in the shop to determine the failure.
Hope this helps!

the location is:
http://www.amazon.com/Government-Reprints-Press-DVR4200-GoVideo/dp/B000068BRK
and although they are trying to sell the machine, a little way down the page is a link to download the manual.
i expect it will disappear when the machine is sold,
