First, many SD storage music players do not support HCSD. Is the SD card bigger than 2gig? This could be the problem. Try a smaller SD card.

The mp3 only plays about

The reason only some songs are playing is because the other songs aren't in a format that it recognizes. Make sure all the songs are in mp3 format, if they're not you can get programs that will convert any song into mp3. If you need more help let me know =)

After about 20min. of riding,

You're probably experiencing a thermal problem with the unit. You can open it up to expose the interior components, and let it run until it fails...and then spray suspect components once at a time with freeze spray. When you hit the component, the unit should come on. The problem with devices these days is that, even if you do pinpoint the bad component, it's hard to get the parts, and often we're let with no choice but to buy the entire board, or a new unit if the cost of repair and board are too high.
You can see what you can see...sometimes cracked solder traces can be heat senstive, and sometimes you can resolder them (if they're not too small).
Contact support for you device, to see if they can help, or swap the unit out.
Here's their warranty information:

It sounds like the battery is dying. Most of the time when a unit can't easily turn on, the battery is at the end of it's life. Replacing the battery should get it going again.

Can't get it to recognize music we added on a new scan disk

All you need is a SD disc usb holder to transfer files from your windows Media player onto it. Use the Windows converter to format your songs to mp3. Just right click on the songs or albums in your library and then select Send to > Windows Audio Converter > A window will pop up that has the songs selected ready to convert, but you need to first use the browse icon to make sure the MP3 SD disc is the output folder you are sending the music to. Just see whether the disc holder is plugged into the g or h drive, then once that has been done you can start the conversion. Once that is done, you should be able to play the music back on your HD Road Tech mp3 palyer. ONe last point, make sure to uncheck 'add my converted files to my library' as that will double up the same music selection in your library. Remember you are just wanting to copy the mp3 files to the external SD disc for your player not make mp3 files for your pc media player. Hope this helps.

HARLEY DAVIDSON ROAD TECH HA90

I own the player on my 2004 HD Softail Deuce. I have a catalog of various sizes of sd cards from my original 64mb up to 2gb. The problem you are having could be that you have the music in WMI instaed of having converted it to the mp3 format with your windows player. Be sure to use the lowest quality when converting to the mp3 as you will not notice the difference in the playback. Also do not be surprised that you cannot get what you think on a 2 gig sd card. One of my 2 gig cards has the entire Led Zeppelin studio catalog including some various Robert Plant solo songs from his various albums. I buy my sd cards from Microcenter here in Ohio for around $7.00 each. The local wal-marts are making a killing with 512mb for around $15.00 each, so shop around for the cards you need.

Are there any upgrades for the Harley Davidson Road Tech HA90?

Not really, The problem with the older radio is that the way they fed the power to the mp3 side was to back door it through the FM modulator, thus resulting in a lower volume than theradio. Unfortunately there is no fix for it. I’m happy to assist further over the phone at https://www.6ya.com/expert/robert_5bac37c3cb991fdb
