Hitachi 46W500 46 in. TV/DVD Combo - Page 3 Questions & Answers
Won't turn off
Go to the panel (on the tv set), hit magic focus on there....then hold power button for several seconds long. It should go off and fix your problem.
Is the hitachi 46W500 blue ray compatible
It doesn't have an HDMI port, only a DVI port. You'd have to get an HDMI-to-DVI cable to get a true "digital" signal on the screen, but you'd still have to do your audio with the RCA jacks because DVI is video only whereas HDMI is audio and video.
As far as Blu-ray compatible, yes and no. It's a high-def TV, so if you hook a Blu-Ray player up to it you'll be in good shape but the built-in DVD player will not read or play Blu-Ray movies.
Magic focus grid not straight.
i'm no expert by any means; but I wonder if it could be as simple as the reflective screening on the inside comming loose. I have a 65" and I took it apart to clean it. The reflective screening looked to me like it could be a weak point. Just a thought.
Moving
I believe that is a rear projection type and if you take base off it MAY mess up your picture completely. It would probably be best to buy or rent a dolly or large wheels cart to put it on and move.
My tv no pic
your vertical output IC could be faulty, or the FET that controls the vertical output could be faulty
Hitachi 46w500 went off tonight during storms, low voltage, wont turn back on
There might be a failure on the power supply or horizontal section of the TV even if you see some light inside the TV. Some of the voltages could be missing and that is why the TV fails to power up.
If you know how to use a multimeter, you could check all the fuses from your power supply.
Unplug your TV from the main AC line if you intend to do it yourself.
You will know how much you can do or it might safer to contact a tech.

Dvd
I had to unplug mine from the wall, then make sure the TV is off, and hit the open button.
Tv/dvd combo
The DVD built in, is a standard DVD player. I don't think Blu Ray or HD-DVD was standardized at the time, and if they were, were quite expensive at the time.
Removing the screen from Hitachi 46W500
Pop the speaker cover off and then remove the screws holding the two small black covers on either side, then you will see the screws holding the bottom of the screen.
Prob
Covergence problems . Could be loose contacts on the output IC's or bad IC's . If they are bad they generally also have bad resistors or fuses that open up as well .
Need a remote code that actually works!
I have never been a big fan of the universal remotes , but most of the times they do at least turn the tv on . You could possibly have a bad IR as well to . Whats your model # of the tv and what type of universal remote are you trying ?
DVD player won't eject
No but I'm having same problem and the dealer sugested just buying a new dvd player cause cost of repair or replacement is unbelivably high, approx 500 canadian for new dvd sleeve, the guy tells me they don't fix them they just put a whole new dvd player in from hthe manufacturer. Pretty disapointing considering how nice it is to have it built in.
Power down malfunction
Before doing anything try upgrading the software first and see if that cures the problem. Call 1-800-HITACHI to get the latest version sent to you and then just follow the instructions. There is a port on the back of that unit where you will insert the MMC or SD card they send you and the update commands are available in the customer menu...
Good Luck!

DVD player
Yes, the DVD sleeve is pretty accessible. All you need is a pretty standard phillips screwdriver. First, pull the speaker screen out from the bottom of the tv. Then unscrew the screws necessary to remove the sleeve. I haven't done it a while, but I believe there is one layer before you get to the sleeve. Before ordering a new DVD player, I recommend removing the sleeve and checking for problems yourself. If you're not too tech saavy, perhaps you could call a friend to help? I think maintenance would be a useless waste of money. Good luck, let me know.
