Your TV most likely has a Convergence Chip Failure ( common problem )

Here are some of the most common symptoms and example photos of a convergence problem

• Screen looks 3D
• Colors don't line up
• One or more colors can't be adjusted when using the convergence menu.
• Screen is bowed or warped.

Solution #1

You need to replace the convergence chips and convergence resistors. Check the site www.TvRepairKits.com. They have put together convergence repair kits for most models.

The kits include a photo instruction guide, original OEM Sanyo STK chips, convergence resistors, pico fuses, thermal paste, etc. Everything you will need to do the repair yourself.

Here is a quick test....

Using your original remote go-to the tv settings then goto the convergence section.

Try to adjust the red and then the blue convergence.



You should be able to move them up, down, left, and right.

If you can't move them in all directions your convergence chips are bad and should be replaced. This is a common problem.

Problem #2 CRT Fluid is Cloudy

Projection TV tubes have a liquid coolant that is used to keep them from overheating. After many years the coolant in the blue and green tubes will become cloudy and cause the screen to look dull, red/orange, etc. You may even see halos around images.

What you will need to do is replace the coolant and clean the crt. You can get a repair kit from www.TvRepairKits.com that includes replacement coolant, photos. instructions, etc.

You will need to have the light engine replaced.

There are two screens on PTVs. The one on the outside has vertical lines in it and it is called the linticular screen. The one on the inside has circles in it and it is called the fresnel screen. You did not state what make or model number this is, but these screens can be very expensive ~$300. You may be able to locate one if your set is not too old. Let me know if this helps or if you need more info. With the model number and make I may be able to locate one for you.

If you mean the images have red green or blue outline then yo have a convergence problem, Try magic focus. If that doesn't work you will need conv ics replaced .

Go into the menu and turn off Closed Caption.

Replace the convergence ics.

Model number?.If this is a DLP chage light engine.

Replace the screen. If glossy juat replace the screen saver. If it has ridges in it replace fresnl screen.

All from the front. Pull off the bottom speaker grill. No screws just pull straight back. There are rubber post that hold it. Next remove the screws on the bottom of the screen assembly. With them off you should be able to slide the screen assembly up about 1-2 inches and take off. This model does have auto convergence so the screen may have wires hooked to the back. With the power off disconnect the leads before setting the screen assembly down. Cleaning should be with a plastic cleaner not windex. If you do have to remove screen parts it's fairly obvious. Be sure to reassemble the same order and make sure you have help these parts are delicate when separate.

I looked back and see your talking about a crt type. My bad. A small yellow spot is most likely dirt or a bug in the blue optics. Tale the front off the set and with the tv on look down into the lenses. If you see a blob of dirt or a bug this is your trouble. Be careful not to move the blue tube but take the lens assembly off and clean the surfaces. There are four screw that hold just the lens assembly. The other screws shouldn't be touched. It will need alignment otherwise.

You may have bad connection on the Vertical output IC.

If the convergence is off more than 1/2 inch or so you can't adjust. you have a failure of hardware. most likely the output IC. This set has 2 outputs for convergence. Each output contains 3 circuits, Six circuits altogether 2 red ,2 blue and 2 green. The normal customer adjustment will only alow adjustment of blue and red. They should be converged onto the green. There is a much more complex adjustment in the service mode for Geometry and convergence. These adjustments are only needed when you replace a failed componnent like the output ic. These ICs have been upgraded several times since the production of this set. The latest and most powerfull version is STK394-160. If feel up to it I suggest changing both outputs and the corresponding output resistors. Then do a complete geometry and convergence alignment.

It will take some effort to pull it off. start on the bottom pulling straight out from the box. Then work your way up then at the top wiyh the screen out away from the bottom lift slightly and it will come off. Hope this Helps You.

You may need to replace the lamp there is a small door in the back take screws out make sure you disconnet TV first, Also make sure you shop around online get TV model and type of lamp from your manual and GOOGLE it you will surprise by the prices from $70 up to $300, you can do it yourself. You have a convergence problem, There usually are some limited user adjustments you can make. if these are available on your set they will be listed in the owners manual.
These adjustments are rather complicated. failing that the convergence IC's (chips) may need replacing and a full convergence alignment done. This is best left to a professional as the adjustments require some special equipment
