OK, on day when i turned on my iriver, it says "system files missing, to restore the system files, connect H10 to iriver plus." so i connect it to iriver plus and the iriver says "USB connected" but iriver plus doesnt recognise t, like it is not connected, i have tried what other soloutions were given, but the iriver doesn't appear on my computer, but it does on safetly remove hardware, i have downloaded the newest version of iriver plus and it still doean't work. i cant get it to do anything now, not even turn off with =out takinging the battery out.
Okay, my IRiver broke with the same kind of problems but I've managed to fix it!
First off i connected the IRiver to the pc, and whilst it was connecting, pressed the 'select' button (the one on the front with the circle on it) to force it to connect.
Next i right clicked on it and selected format to wipe everything off it (just to make sure it was blank).
Next, go to www.iriver.com and on the left hand side click Support->Download and click on H10 in the product box. On that page should be a file to download called "[MTP]H10 5G/5G Pure/6G Firmware Upgrader/Recovery Tool(US & EU only)". The download icon is just underneath the title of it, so download, unpack using winrar ot winzip etc, then double click and follow the instructions.
It wiped the songs off, but i have an IRiver that works! Its an awful product in my opinion, but better to have it working than not. Can't guarentee that it'll work for everyone but it fixed mine first time.
Hope it helps!

Have HP WinXP PC. My Iriver H10 20GB is not recognized by the machine. Win XP is version 5.1 (Build2600.xpclient.010817-1148) The Installation CD has only Windows Media Player 10 but no driver. Earlier, I had installed the same Iriver with my laptop (IBM, WinXP) and had no problems in the system recognizing the drive. Would be obliged to get an expert opinion on whether there is a driver that can be installed to get my system to recognize.

You could also do the "emergency connection" trick. First, plug the USB into your computer, hold down the "o" button and push the reset button with something that has a point. The computer will recognize your h10 as a hard drive. The you can sync music to your player or just drag-n-drop it. you'll probably need to use a program like "Easy H10" to update your player's database. It's easy to use and it only takes a couple of minutes to update.

The only thing I could do was completely delete the data and download everything all over again. I did this using the iRiver Firmware. For now I know no other way to get past this problem.

I have Vista o/s and it won't recognise my iriver h10 player. I've downloaded iriver music manager and can use iriver as my media player.

Just to let everyone know I have the H10 6Gb player and the reason your having problems getting the H10 to work with Vista is because it isn't supported by Vista at all even with updating your firmware...

i recently got my iriver H10 as a hand me down...it didnt come with instructions and i cant figure out how to reset the thing to factory setting..can you assist me ?
Posted by volunteere... on
There is a small hole on top of the player it says reset beside the hole. You need a small straight pen to stick inside and press down you will feel it click , then restart your player.
Hope i helped you.
Thanks for using ' Fixya ' and have a nice day!!

My computer recognizes the device when I plug it in with the USB cable but the iriver software doesn't. I just ripped some music using the iriver program but cannot transfer it. When I click on "device info," the message "no portable device inserted" appears. When I click on "tools," "portable device connected" and "disconnect portable device" are disabled. The device is clearly connected, as the computer recongizes it. I've tried turning on and off the the device, plugging and unplugging it, and restarting the iriver program on my computer several times. So the problem must be with the software. When I clicked on Help, "check for iriver plus 3 update," I got the message that the most recent version has been installed. I would appreciate your help. Thanks.

I have had my iriver for about 4 years now and have never had any problems with it until now. I can use the radio and everything else seems to be fine, but when i click on music to try and access anything i have downloaded onto my iriver, i get the following message 'DB Open Error. Connect iriver plus And DB Update'. I have no idea what this means. I have tried connecting it to my iriver software and completing a sync but its not working. Any ideas??

connect player to your pc using the ums trick
What is the UMS trick on IRiver H10?http://www.zolved.com/synapse/view_content/5942/What_is_the_UMS_trick_on_IRiver_H10
This article tells you how to transfer music to your player The UMS trick is a great thing to know how to do. With it, you can transfer music, or treat your H10 as a harddrive to put anything you want on.
The UMS trick will also allow you to use your H10 with virtually any OS.
For 5/6 GB MTP Models
always in UMS mode!
---download and run the free playlist maker called easyh10. It will read the music files on your h10, rebuild a playlist and save it to your player.

when i turn on my iriver, it comes up "system files missing, to restore the system files, connect H10 to iriver plus." and i do, but it doesn't work. it never used to do this but now it does. i know that there are other problems like this one, but i have tried to fix it but the iriver doesn't come up on my "my computer" screen, every once in a while, when i plug the iriver in, is says "USB Connected" but not every time, the power cord works all the time. i dont know what to do.
I fixed this problem for my mate, here's what I did:
1) plugged in H10 to pc that didn't have any iriver software on it
a) I've read if you press the "o" button on the iRiver H10 when connecting it will just connect as a usb mass storage device
2) the H10 now appears as a mass storage device
3) right click on the drive, and select format ( I choose quick format)
4) install the iRiverFirmware updater from http://iriveramerica.com/support/mtpupdate/
5) when you run the updater, it found the H10, then asked if the device was from USA or Europe, mine was from Europe
6) It stated that the iRiver firmware was v0.0, and would install v2.51 (I've seen v2.53 available on the european iriver website but could not download it).
7) proceed with installing the updated firmware
8) on the last screen it says, unplug to complete firmware update - NOTE press Finish first before unplugging
9) switching on the iRiver it 'rebooted' a few times and then when the menu appeared, I connected to the pc and just dropped some mp3 files into the music directory and all was okay.
hope this helps.

Thank you so much for the info you had posted on the EasyH10 from Sourceforge.net.
I just got this H10 on ebay. Is it ok to just drop mp3 files from the explore window into the music file? Because that is what I was doing when i had the problem.

This is for the H10 20GB:
6. Format the player as you would any drive on your computer - right click on the player icon in My Computer and click on Format.
7. Unzip the firmware you downloaded from the iriver website.Follow the instructions (including steps 1 - 5 detailed above) to install the fimware.
You may get an error message and a prompt asking where you bought the player. Chose whatever area/region you want - doesn't make much of a difference to be honest...
Once you've loaded the firmware, you're ready to rock and roll !!!! I had the same problem and now my player is like new :-)
