JVC TH-A9 System Questions & Answers
We have JVC DVD Digital Cinema System Model TH-A9.
It sounds to me that the sub has blown a fuse. This could be caused by a faulty amp. Subwoofers are at the end of the day are just a mono amp. If the main amp in it shorts, it will blow the fuse.
A visual test might be all that is needed, plus your nose if it has fried the part!
Home theater won't start playing DVD
If a disc will not spin, A- the laser may not be focusing on the disc, as it must do this before it will spin and read the TOC. ( table of contents) B- you could have a fault in the spindle motor circuit or the motor could be bad. You will need to find an authorized servicer if you do not understand solid state repairs. Good Luck

If the processor IC was damaged there is more to this as the mother board also could be damaged as some discrete components would have also shorted or burnt. So it is best to take an estimation before you go further up as such cases could end up with expensive costs.

You can't. The Laser will only Play +R & +RW.

System works fine until i turn it up, or the movie
Generally speaking, an amp protects itself from heat, shorts, overloads and operator exuberance by refusing to turn on or stay on.
Overloads can be from excessive periods of high output or marginally low impedance loading by the speakers; and shorts would be wiring issues or a speaker blowing up.
You should be able to feel if it's hot. WHY is it overheating? Make sure it has sufficient ventilation on all sides and that vent holes are not blocked by dust balls. Ensure the fan (if equipped) is running as designed (some only operate on demand). Clean dust and debris from it.
If the amp comes back on after cooling, you're lucky. They only have so many self-protection cycles in their lives so continuously resetting or cycling their power without addressing the cause can do more harm than good.
If it protects immediately on a cool power up you should disconnect the speaker connections and try it 'naked'. If it comes up then diagnose which lead(s) are shorted. If it does not come up the problem is internal and should be left to an experienced and competent hands-on tech.
Check for loose speaker connections at the speaker as a root cause for intermittent shutdown.

When you insert a dvd it says PAL DISK
PAL is the format of the dvd and there are two main formats for a dvd and they are PAL or NTSC. The NTSC format is mostly used for the United States, and the PAL format is used more in Europe and Asia. An older dvd player will have the format options in the setup menu for the dvd player, and from the setup menu on the tv screen the dvd player can be set to play the PAL dvd's. However if that is not the problem and the dvd player no longer can tell a PAL from a NTSC format then the dvd player either needs a serious lens cleaning or it has a malfunction. Also, the back of the cover for the dvd should say if it is PAL or NTSC.
Hello cyberland!! Want to sell
Hi
JVC list the troubleshooting for this as follows
No sound.
1)The system cable is not connected properly . Check the connection.
2) The speaker cord is not connected properly. Check the connection.
3) There is a short in the speaker cord. Reconnect the speaker cord and press on the
center unit to restart the system.
4) The powered sub-woofer power supply is off. Insert the plug firmly into the socket and
press on the center unit to switch power off, and then press it again to switch power
on.
5)The audio cord is not connected properly. Connect the cord properly.
6) An incorrect source has been selected. Select the correct source.
7) Muting is on. Press MUTING to cancel mute.
I have highlighted the most 3 likely causes that sometimes slip our attention when we troubleshoot these things.
If you have rigorously checked through all of these then unfortunately the amplifier may be lighting up but not actually doing anything because of an internal problem in the circuit board itself. This would require service attention.
