Public speaking can be difficult; there are several techniques to use to help you get over the stage fright you feel, meaning the fearfulness and nervousness. Many will say to imagine them in their underwear; although this may help in some situations, other times it can cause you even greater embarassment and stress( in example, if there is an attractive person there and....well, you know!)I suggest you take some deep breaths and prepare what you want to say beforehand, in writing, on small cards ( like cue cards). Explaining that you feel nervous talking in front of groups will help, since most of them also have the same problem and they will all be sympathetic to you. The cards will help you to remember exactly what you need to say, as well as keep on track. Start off by just reading the cards. As your comfort level increases, look up from the cards and look slightly over their heads, or glance briefly at each of them as you read. Relaxing as you go will help - as well as remembering most of them have the same problem, whether they admit it or not. When I first started playing music on the Worship team at church, I was nervous and made mistakes - but I kept on playing. Its been over a year now - I still make mistakes from time to time, but I am getting better. Hi Tasmyn, A suggestion. I take it you have to read Cesar Chavez book for the speech. Pick on a subject you can relate to in the book, e.g. fair wages, or how to use peaceful tactics to further a good cause, then think of how that subject affected you. Firstly I take it you are nervous about giving the speech, so talking a subject in the book that affected you will make it easier for you. Maybe you could start by saying... "What could have a deep and lasting impact on your life? I found that Cesar Chavez has done just that to me. I will describe how he has effected me, and maybe this will have a positive effect on you too...." I would then describe the subject, and pick on only one point in the subject, e.g. how you are going to use "peaceful tactics" from now on. Then I would suggest your conclusion will be to summarize what you have described, say that as it has built you up, you hope and think that this approach in the life of each of the listeners will also be of great benefit to them. If they did not have to read the book, I would also suggest you encourage them to read the book as well. I hope this helps you.

All though I am good at giving speeches and trying to keep people interested, for something like this you would have to do this yourself. You're speech is specific and requires a knowledge of what you are discussing. Examples of speaches can be found online but you will have to Google and search for yourself and then make your own. My advise would be to stick to any important, relevant subject matter, keep each point entertaining, interesting but short. give enough detail to get the points across without droning on for too long. Explain things in a way that is easy to grasp but don't treat your audience like idiots. Make the speech flow and sound natural, maybe record yourself reading it and listen back so you can hear how you sound. Make your speech flow naturally so it doesn't seem like your just reading off some cards. This is the best advise I can give based on the limited amount of info you provided. Good luck. Cheers.
