My panasonic toughbook cf-51 keeps cycling off/on during start and will not go to my windows XP desktop display. Can somebody please help?
Start the computer. As soon as the "Starting Windows" screen comes up (not the Panasonic/Intel screen), hold down the Power Button to shut off the computer. This might force the computer to go in to Windows recovery mode when you restart. Now, turn on the computer, and it should go to a "Windows Diagnostics and Recovery" page. Choose Diagnose the Problem or whatever it says, follow the instructions.
If you do a new, clean install of XP in 2018, one would be missing hundreds of updates from Microsoft that would be very hard if not impossible to get. Some of those updates might apply to software that you want to use in conjunction with Windows XP. And if it is an older PC, you might not be able to find driver support for the particular make/model, and XP might not have the drivers you need. How many times have you heard someone say, "I just reinstalled XP, but now I am missing drivers?"
This could be your trouble, because even if your XP updated all the way up to April 2014, you could still be missing Panasonic updates provided by Panasonic/Microsoft through Windows Update, and many other Microsoft/Windows updates.
Since Microsoft has not supported XP since April 2014, I would recommend not using it anymore in 2018.
