Does the Printer have blue tooth if it does then you should with out any problems but if it doesn't then you need to install it through your network or with a cable .

Try another source for printing. Website is one, word processing is another, notepad is the other. Let us know if it works in any of those

The Ink maybe depleted. Check the Ink Levels on your printer.

errr.....No, no it does not. The Manual says that "unable to clean" means one of two things.....1. The MFC has a mechanical problem.-OR-2. A foreign obstacle, such as a clip or ripped paper, is in the MFC.but regardless, I don't believe it *IS* a 'cleaning' problem per se.Try resetting the power purge counter.Press menu > Mono Start > 4x Arrow up after another. This problem could be Phone line problem, or hardware failure or receiver's (the machine of the person whom you are sending the fax) machine problem and so on. First, let's check the line, if you have another Phone line, please dial from the number to your number, also, connect the currently connected line to a receiver and call a Land-line number, if the outgoing or incoming is ok, the proceed forward, otherwise, you telephone operator should check the line.

Sometimes, sending fax to a particular number doesn't work, to make sure, try sending a fax to another number.

If the line which is connected to the machine is extended from another machine such as Receiver, Switch, etc... unplug them and connect the fax machine directly to the Line.

It's also important to adjust the compatibility mode, to do this, follow the steps below:
Press Menu. Press the up or down arrow key to select Fax. Press OK. Press the up or down arrow key to select Miscellaneous. Press OK. Press the up or down arrow key to select Compatibility. Press the left or right arrow key to select Basic (for VoIP). Press OK. Press Stop/Exit.

On the page which opens:

• Select the operating system of your computer (Windows Xp/ Vista..) from the drop-down list
• Select the Language (English) and click the Search button
• Download and install the drivers and software from the next page which opens.

Not sure if your answer is correct, As I said Windows update thought it was downloading the correct driver and it didn't work correctly. I don;t want to say your link isn't helpfull, But I followed another suggestion and installed the Windows Vista Suite for the Brother MFC-5840CN all in one.and it not only fixed the problem it also installed all the multifunction drivers and software.So I am good for now. Thank you for responding to my delema. In case someone else needs it, Here it is.
