You didn't say anything about the model or make but a lot of times this comes from bad capacitors...try this...on the open fins on the back of the TV, try putting a blow comb on there and set it on low and leave it there for about 3 minutes, turn the set on and see if it comes right on, if it does there are bad caps on the power board, it could be replaced or you could repair it yourself for a couple dollars

better be very careful here, if a pop or flash near one of the three crts or picture tubes there is serious voltage there.

the tubes each have a sealed wire delivering at least ten thousand volts to each tube===I have heard this before. likely what you have now is the seal they place where the wire enters the tube (2nd Anode) is arcing.

tube has to be removed to get at and reseal that--not a beginner or doit yourself job.

Note: if you keep turning it on sooner or later it will destroy other parts.

Tuner or a sync problem----using the video inputs bypasses the tuner and front end of the set's signal circuits---consider using a box with audio and video outs to a rear input and bypass the problem.

It will be good to check once again on the work that was done as there is a possibility that the pins are bridged with solder when the rework was done.
So if you are able to use a magnification glass to inspecct it will be good and if so there is also a possibility that the IC was damaged.
Finally int he first place the identification of the fault of the convergence IC must be established with your test other wise a board replacement might confirm.

You need to Change out the Convergence ICs they are Big Black ICs and will have the part number on them STK392-570s I think is what they use in this model.
Mats Electronics has ICs 1-800-628-1118
You can ship the Convergence board to PTS and let them rebuilt the board 1-800-844-7871
Zenith Exchange Moduels 1-800-632-6637
If you plan on Fixing this ,then you also need to check the Low ohm resisotrs 1ohm and Capaciotrs 1000uf 35v near the STK ICs

Hi,

I have one question for you; Have you ever changed the lamp/bulb of your TV?

This problem looks more or less like a lamp/bulb problem, this is why i am asking when last you changed the bulb.

Another cause of the problem could be a defective picture board. Connect the TV to a DVD player to be sure if problem is simply not just from the cord.

One of these certainly has to be the cause of the problem.

Keep me posted and let me know howw far you have gone.

Yours sincerely.

The screen voltage for red needs to be turn up. The screen voltage adjustments are behind the front speaker cover. There are six adjustments and are very touchy, turn very slowly, cc for brightness, on screen adjustments, Before you make a adjustment, you need to go into the menu and turn all the color down, then adjust the red, green and, blue screen adjustments where you you will get a good black and whit picture, after you have that then turn the color back up, and then make the convergence adjustments.

abrambila200,

One of two things is happening here.

Either the convergence circuitry is bad or one of the sensors in the screen is bad. I would try to auto align several times and note what the unit does. If it is consistent and will not align then I would replace the digital convergence box.

I have a tip at http://www.fixya.com/support/r4273935-replace_digital_convergence_box which will walk you through the process as well as tell you where to get the parts at the best price.

Thanks for using FixYa and for the generous rating.
