There is a physical mechanism that should lock in when it's pressed down. Usually there is a release button for that mechanism when you need to open it. I would try using tape and see if it will play when it's taped shut. Depending on the mechanism this may be your only option.

wizofoz99, I'm working on an abused cd331t and also have the same "open" in the display.
If you open the top, as if to insert CD, look to the rear, near the right hinge, there should be a small post, molded into top cover. What do you see on the end of the post?

To the experts, have seen the interlock to be SW215. Is it an IR tx\rx or magnetic. I don't see anything on the end of the interlock post. Should there be a reflector or small magnet on the end? Please advise. I'm a tinkerer not an expert. Thanks in advance.

Are you using the charging cables that came with it? That is a type C. Are you securely attaching the charging cable? A loose connection would keep the battery from charging. If you had a low battery, you would see a red light. That you have no light at all suggests there is no charge left in the battery. I'm not sure the reset will work with no charge which is why you ought to check the cables first. But turn it off and then hold down the Multifunction button for 10 seconds to reset it.
