Adobe illustartor shows run time error
if you can't figure out exactly the reason why and wish to work with your software, you can uninstall and reinstall it again. You must delete all leftover files from program files and from the registry editor. Want less effort to do? Use Revo Uninstaller to do the work. Search from google, download and install.

I have microsoft picture it
I'll be honest, I've used Picture It! once only, so I'm definitely no expert. There may be some quirk of the program or something else on the desktop that causes this crashing when you access files there. I would suggest you move your files off the desktop into a new folder. This should fix the trouble since you say you can open files in folders without problems. I also recommend this as a way of keeping your pictures organized. And the desktop isn't a great place to store large numbers of individual files, as it can slow down Windows some, as well as making it difficult to find things on the desktop.

How to load microsoft picture it
if it is on a disk with autoplay ..that has the tendency to run all the stuff on it ...just insert the disk ...cancel the autoplay ..or ..anything the wants to run ...after that go to my computer folder ..right click on the disk icon ...and choose explore
This will open the disk and expose anything inside...open the program folder and click on the installer..or execution with the program name..
This way you will run and install only what you want ...
If it is a program that runs from the disk directly (I mean it is already installed into a folder on the disk and runs directly from there ..) just select the folder and copy it into a location on the computer ....after that make a short cut on the desktop for the execution of the program ...and use it ..
Good luck ..and please rate if helps...

Runtime error
Does the Program issue you the name of the suspect runtime library at any point? If it does, go get the latest version of the runtime from the NET, in a searchengine type the name of the file+ext. download and then copy it in the same direrctory (folder) as the one on your system now.
NOTE: I would FIRST rename the one on your system as <currentfilename.current_extention>and then add .OLD to it.
