20 Most Recent Microsoft Windows 98 for PC - Page 9 Questions & Answers

if it happens only on the web pages ..it is an issue with the internet speed..and the small ram memory ..windows 7 requires at least 1 G of memory to work fine ...and the connection if it is a wireless modem from a mobile phone company ..it is too slow for it ..
other wise if the ram memory is at least 1G and the connection is a normal one ..than you contacted a virus..and you need to reinstall the computer ..and install an anti-virus for it ..(at least a free one ) ..cause if you installed a trial and expired in 2 weeks or a month ..its like you do not have it at all..
I recommend AVG 9 free for the job ..
here is the link ..
you can try to install it and make a cleaning scan ..maybe you are lucky and works ..but the best solution is to reinstall it clean ..(specially if it worked fine after the installation of windows7 ..this proves that it is a virus and has nothing to do with the computer's specs..)
by the way .if you had another anti-virus.just uninstall it ..go to program file and remove the folder manually after uninstalling ..than restart ..and after that try to install the new anti-virus..cause otherwise will not let you ..
I repeat ..if the web pages worked fine after the installation ..than the problem is a virus contacted as cause to the lack of anti-virus software..

It may not be Windows 98 that is the problem it may just be your browser. The library is running a browser with no add-ons. Have you tried running Internet Explorer with add-ons disabled? Have you tried another browser such as Opera. You will have to try an older version of Opera such as 9.64 which you can get here. http://opera.en.softonic.com/download-version/opera-9.64 You should be able to get on Facebook with Opera. With Windows 98 which is a dinosaur you are going to have more and more problems besides the fact that it is a very vulnerable system. You really need to get a new computer running Windows 7 or get a Mac running Snow Leopard.

Stop using Windows 98 -- MIcrosoft stopped supporting it, two years ago, and stopped supporting Windows 2000 as of July 13, 2010. Buy a new computer, with Windows 7 preinstalled, and your problems will be circumvented.

Microsoft officially ended all "support" for Windows 98 over 2 years ago, and officially ended all "support" for Windows 2000 on July 13, 2010.

So, stop using Windows 98; instead, get a new computer, which will be running Windows 7, and then LIVE-TV will work.

When you say tool bars do you mean the bar at the bottom of the screen that has start on it or do you mean in the program lauch bar?

Microsoft... | Answered on Jul 06, 2010

well this might happened due to some reason first you check below points:
1) speaker should be properly connected to your PC.
2) In your operating system, sound must not be muted.
3) if above 2 points are ok then now you need to check that sound drive is installed or not. you can go to control panel then device manager and that weather sound driver is installed or not. if it is not installed then you go online and search for the sound drive.. thats all then your problem will get solved.

Note that Microsoft stopped issuing security-updates for Windows 98 several years ago, and will stop issuing security-updates for Windows 2000 after July 2010.

So, install Windows XP, or buy a new computer, and a newer version of Microsoft Windows (Vista or 7) will be preinstalled.

Just having the icon of internet and the modem wont get you internet. Do you have an internet connection and is the system and the modem configured for that connection? Is the telephone line attached to the modem and is the modem attached to the computer?then only the internet would work.
