What is wrong with it?
the throttle cable has been adjusted to far foward making choke engagement hard and the govenor speed needs to be adjusted down it set to fast
Choke adjustment
The manual is on this link: http://engines.honda.com/parts-and-support/owners-manuals/GCV160 The manual depends on the serial number. It does not appear to have adjustable choke.
How do I adjust the thorttle settings?
follow the throttle cable down to the throttle plate you should see a screw with a clamp holding the cable loosen it up pull back on the throttle cable a little tighten the screw down see if it works better as for as the govenor its tricky better left to a mechanic because engine might rev up and blow crank so leave it to them start when you pick it up if sounds to fast have them adjust it right then charlie
How to remove silver cover on front of engine
Bumped a tree and the mower died ?? If so, you broke the Keyway on the flywheel which threw off the Timing. Flywheel has to come off and a new keyway ( very cheap) has to be installed.
Engine stops
It's a good engine. Need more specifics. It runs for 5 minutes?? it stalls as soon as it revs?Did the problem just happen the week after mowing or has it been this way after the mower sat for months?
Honda gcv160 governer problem
try looking at anotherone and look at the long wire cord maybe u took the carb off and didnt put it in the right hole..or forgot to put the spring on or have that in the wrong place the honda carbs suck it goes in and out when the carb is faulty..check the carb get it rebuilt or just change the pin on the float..
Throttle stuck
remove the top cover from the engine and see if a mouse built a nest under the cover and keeping the governor from moving freely
Will fire but stops after a few seconds. Not
I would first check the spark plug and air filter. If the air filter has grass or dirt packed in the folds of the paper element, replace it. Also if the spark plug has a black charcoal like substance on it, it will need brushed off. The spark plug can be removed with a 13/16 deep well socket.
If the unit will still not start, there may be water in the fuel tank. Drain the fuel tank and empty the contents of the fuel bowl on the carburetor. The carburetor fuel bowl has a nut on the side of it, it can be loosened with a 10mm wrench. Let it drain out completely, tighten the nut on the fuel bowl, and add fresh fuel.
If it will not start at this point you will need to have the engine serviced. This can be done at any Honda Power Equipment repair shop. They may not want to work on it since it is on a Husqvarna mower, most will tell you that the only thing that they will work on is the engine. Alternately you can take it to a Husqvarna dealer and get the mower serviced there.
Leaking gas through air filter
If the GCV engine is tilted with the carb. down, it will leak gas. If it is leaking gas setting level, this indicates the float/needle is not shutting the gas off properly. Would need to disassemble carb. and check the float and probably replace the inlet needle. The float hinge may be "varnished" and not allowing the float to "move" and shut off the fuel coming into the carburetor. Hope this helps in some way.
