try holding in the menu and input buttons together on the front panel for about 8 seconds to see if the self diagnosis feature will blink a two digt code then let me know what happens

I know these sets pretty well--worked on a lot of them when new and later--one of two possible ideas=

1. Either a odd convergence problem==confirmed or denied by going into the convergence menu (in customer menu) and selecting advanced which will bring up a grid of lines--if see the same issue (I will attach a photo of a Mitsubishi with this problem) it can be fixed.

2. Some sort of issue with the circuit board on the end of the Blue tube(you are missing blue=black) but usually in this set if that happens it is uniform and on both sides of the screen, not the top.

Let me know what you find.

I doubt it is convergence, but does not hurt to look--if the missing area was perfectly rectangular I would suspect up/down centering adjustment.

There is one other possible thing to try--we will leave it for last--set has 3 hidden menus and one is OPTION menu which allows a hard reset of entire set--sets everything back to factory except convergence adjustments which are stored in another area.

NORMAL adjustments are made with the remote in the menu--if color looks skewed or even 3d go into menu and select convergence--with remote see if will adjust.

A better explanation of what the issue is might help and confirm model number if possible

Heres the info after removing the screws the screen frame has to lift up slightly then it comes right off.10_29_2011_12_27_20_pm.jpg

Your convergence has failed and needs to be repaired. Once quick test is to goto your convergence menu and see if you can adjust red and blue. If not its has failed and needs to be fixed. You can call in a repair shop or you can get the parts and instructions from www.TvRepairKits.com and do the repair yourself. Its a fairly easy DIY fix.

Resolder the convergence IC pins chances are the solder is causing the issue since it seems to correct itself.

Cleaning won't help unless you have reason to believe it's unbelievably filthy inside, which is generally not the case. Plus cleaning the screen and/or lenses may make things worse if you aren't experienced. Many sets have a "magic" or auto focus procedure they can run on themselves to calibrate themselves periodically. Check your Owner's manual if possible, or look for a button that says something like "focus". This process takes several minutes, do not interupt it once started... good luck.

Is the led just blinking non stop green? If so you need the DM repair kit for that model which is available from www.tvrepairworld.com the kit contains the upgraded caps and the CD with repair instructions.

Go to the customer menu and switch the set from air-antenna to cable.

The set is in the air band and not the cable band hence only channels 2-13.

Let me know if you need help.

The part number is usually labeled on the board itself or there is a small sticker on the board that has the part number. If you can get me all the numbers that you see on the board I can tell you which one is the part number. Having said that it is extremely difficult to find replacement boards for old tvs like this one, but we can try.

I don't want to seem condescending in anyway but i would try checking all your cables to see if they are plugged in properly and if that doesn't help id suggest buying new cables and testing those to see if your old ones have died out. If it isn't the cables then return them but at the least we've figured out what it isn't. Other then that i cant really see of any problem other then an internal one.

Check the pico fuses on the board. If one or more tests open, then likely the STK chips need to be replaced. This would mean a convergence failure.

In order to access the lamp, your going to need to remove the front bezzel, screen, and then access the display unit to discover the lamp. The process is not completely easy and I would only use recommended tools when taking things apart to ensure that you do not accidently damage anything. The reason why you can not see the lamp again, is because it is behind the screen and not behind the panel on the rear end of the tv unit. Hope this helps you out..

Projection TV sets are known to have two common problems. The first problem that is common to these sets is convergence failure. When this happens the TV will usually look 3D, Wavy/Distorted, etc. It may also shutdown and blink an error code.

The second common problem with Projection TV sets is dull video, halos around objects, white looking video, or red overpowers the screen. This is commonly caused by the fluid in the lens being clouded overs.

MOST OF THESE SETS HAVE A SELF DIAGNOSTIC:

UNPLUG TV AND THEN PLUG BACK IN---TURN ON---GREEN POWER LIGHT COMES ON FOR A MOMENT AND GOES OFF.

PRESS AND HOLD “device” and “menu” buttons on front of tv for at least 5 seconds and then release both together.

Watch for power light to blink in a sequence:

1 blink-then 2 blinks-------no error

2 blink-then 1 blink-------X-ray protection

2 blink-then 2 blink-------SHORT PROTECTION*******

2 blink-then 3 blink---------deflection circuit problem

2 blink-then 4 blink---------vertical circuit problem

******2, then 2 is most common---usually means one of the fuses that protect the Convergence IC or IC’s is blown---set will detect no voltage to convergence IC and shut down.

SET WILL REPEAT BLINK ERROR CODE UP TO 5 TIMES AND THEN TO GET IT TO REPEAT MORE YOU HAVE TO UNPLUG SET AND TRY TO TURN ON AGAIN.

IF IT IS 2 AND THEN 2---USUALLY
CONVERGENCE CIRCUIT PROBLEM
