Turns on and then off

Hello, This issue is related to a power problem in as much as the receiver turns off on it's own. The problem is consistent with overheating on the power supply board of the receiver. it might have worked fine in the past, but that's electronics for you. Power surge, irregular power supply, excess power supply, etc can affect the unit thereby making it to misbehave. The power supply board of the receiver has few capacitors and IC. If any of these IC's gets short or become weak, it can cause the receiver to turn off on it's own. When current passes from electric outlet to the power supply board of receiver. The current also goes to the weak/faulty part, then the current stops or slow and the board overheats and receiver shuts off on it's own. To solve this issue, check the power supply board and read it with a meter and continuity tester, in order to detect the faulty part and replace the faulty part on the board which is short due to which power supply board You can buy these capacitors at any Fry's or Radioshack store or you can order them online at vendors like "mcmelectronics.com"(look for electrolytic capacitors). After replacing these capacitor(capacitors) most likely the normal operation will be restored. Or you can by a refurbished complete power board from www.shopjimmy.com to save you some stress. If you don't have the ability to read the fault, then you might be needing the help of a repairman or you can call a friend that has the ability to help you out. I wish you the best of luck. Regards.

My rx-v3000 will not power up and i hear a relay

You have a short ANYWHERE in your amp.If you work with metal (espically) metal filings which can get into your amp with wind breeze, could cause a short. I personally repaired a amp with a dead bug across the power transformer (German made 25 TAP) Try this. blow a HEAVY blower inside, around, under & through the amp (PLEASE! unplug from power sourch) yea! turn the amp upside down and do it again! If that don't work...take it to a expert for diagonstic work

I have a Yamaha rx-v3000

Maybe a cool-down is what really fixes it, huh?

Generally speaking, an amp attempts to protect itself from heat, shorts, overloads and operator exuberance by refusing to turn on or stay on.

Overloads can be from excessive periods of high output or marginally low impedance loading by the speakers; and shorts would be wiring issues or a speaker blowing up.

You should be able to feel if it's hot. WHY is it overheating? Make sure it has sufficient ventilation on all sides and that vent holes are not blocked by dust balls. Ensure the fan (if equipped) is running as designed (some only operate on demand). Clean dust and debris from it.

If the amp comes back on after cooling, you're lucky. They only have so many self-protection cycles in their lives so continuously resetting or cycling their power without addressing the cause can do more harm than good.

If it protects immediately on a cool power up you should disconnect the speaker connections and try it 'nekkid'. If it comes up then diagnose which lead(s) are shorted. If it does not come up the problem is internal and should be left to an experienced and competent hands-on tech.

Cost is way out of scope for us to predict.

I took my RX V3000

Hello
DSP boards are not repairable. We have to replace it as card basis itself. Used cards may always have some fault with them. Original replacement is always the best for this section, because this is the heart section of your Yamaha 6.1. $600 is a nominal rate I thinks. The DSP boards cost more than any other section boards. Make an agrement with them to get it seviced for this amount. OK.

I have a rx-v3000. it

Hi Kek,

You appear to have the manual so that saves me writing too many instructions. If you simply unplugged it while you were away and haven't changed any of the speaker connections or the devices which are connected, it's unlikely there is any fault with the equipment and it's probably simply a setup issue. Some of the settings were probably lost due to the length of time the power was disconnected.

The first thing to do it run the test tone for both Dolby Surround and DTS. This is explained onpage 22 of the manual (paper version) or page 27 of the online/PDF version. If you have sound from all speakers when running the test tone, all of the speakers are working and correctly connected and the receiver is also working correctly.

The two most likely reasons you have no audio are either the wrong input has been selected or the wrong audio mode is selected. This is probably due to the receiver having reset to the default settings for these when the power was disconnected.

Make sure the receiver is set to the correct input for the CD player using either the INPUT buttons on the front of the receiver or the direct input selection keys near the top of the remote, e.g. V-AUX, PHONO, CD-R, CD, etc. It's easier if you have a music CD in the player and playing while you do this so you know when you've found the correct input. While it may seem logical to select the CD input for the CD player, this will only work if the CD player is connected to the CD input ports on the back of the player.

The next thing to check is the INPUT MODE. If the CD player is connected with an analog audio cables (red and white RCA jacks on each end), this is an analog connection and the receiver needs to be in analog mode or you wont have any audio from the CD player. This can be changed by pressing the INPUT MODE button on the front of the player repeatedly until ANALOG is shown on the display. Again it helps to have a music CD playing while doing this. Selecting input modes is explained fully on page 27 of the user manual (page 31 online/PDF).

The player will likely default to a digital audio mode (AUTO:DOLBY or DTS) if the power is disconnected, so this is a likely cause of the problem.

It's impossible to list every possible cause as there are two many variables with receivers, but these are the most likely places to start. If this doesn't solve the problem, please could you answer the following questions to assist me in solving your problem:

1. How is the CD player connected to the receiver? Please specify the type of cable you are using and which input ports the cable is connected to on the back of the receiver (if you can get back there!)
2. Do you have any other audio devices connected to the receiver? - TV, DVD, etc.
3. What is currently illuminated on the display on the front of the receiver? - Both written and symbols.

Hope this helps. If you need further assistance, please let me know the answers to the above questions - or as much of the requested information as possible. You can reply to me by clicking on "Add a Comment" below your question.

BElectric

Yamaha Receiver (rxv3000) has intermitent power problem

I also had the very same problem.....I followed the instructed already posted indicating that it was a speaker problem....Instead of disconnecting all speakers at once, I went pair by pair.....and tried to turn it on and see if unit then would stayed on...not really...I continued with the same process....until I got to the last set of speakers....to no avail...

Eureka!.....a few minutes, say 5 or 10.....I turned on the unit and stayed ON!! ! ! ! ! !

Than I re-connected all speakers......and the unit is working fine.

I was at the point of purchasing a new one........to this day I do not have a clue of what caused the unit to go into "protective mode".....

Folks, try this route......and it worked for me....It was a matter of luck...perhaps...I do not know.
