20 Most Recent Dyson DC23ACTUSC Bagless Canister Cyclonic Vacuum Questions & Answers

Hi Jyn, it's Jack at Dyson.

The rotating brush bar in DC23's Turbine head is powered by the vacuum's airflow. From what you've described, it sounds like there may be a blockage somewhere in the machine that's affecting the performance.

To locate and remove any blockages, please take a look at our online Support guide and follow the steps shown on each of the pages: http://www.dyson.co.uk/support/dc23/dc23-animal/my-machine-is-not-working/check-telescopic-wand-step-1-turbine-head

In normal use the pre-filter should be washed at least once every 3-6 months, using cold water without detergent. Even a filter that appears to be externally clean may still need a wash as fine dust particles may be contained within the filter material. The correct method is shown in the video attached. Make sure you allow the filter to dry completely for at least 24 hours before replacing it.

We would advise against attempting to modify the Turbine head in any way, as this could cause damage not covered under guarantee. Hi Elma, it's Jack at Dyson.

If the part you're referring to is the mesh intake on the plunger on the side of your DC23's Turbine head, this part is not designed to be removed by the user. Attempting to remove it could cause damage not covered under warranty.

In normal use, we wouldn't expect the plunger or intake mesh to need regular maintenance, other than to remove any accumulated fluff or debris from the outside of the intake mesh. There is no further filter behind the intake mesh that would need attention.

Hi Terri,

On your DC23's cord is a red indicator to show the maximum length the cord should be extended - pulling it further than this could cause damage to the machine. If this appears to have happened to your machine, please get in touch with us so we can provide further assistance - you can call us on 0800 298 0298 (UK), or 1-866-693-9766 (US).

We'll look forward to helping you resolve this issue.

Hi there,

I'm sorry to hear you're having difficulties with your DC23. If the cleaner doesn't seem to be picking up as well as usual, it's a good idea to check the turbine head, telescopic wand and hose for blockages, and to wash the filter. For guidance on the correct way to do this, please see the link to our Support page below:

http://www.dyson.co.uk/support/help.asp?article=1554&product=DC23-ANIMAL

This should allow you to resolve your issue without further assistance. However, if you've followed the steps shown in the support guide and are still concerned, it's probably best if you get in touch with us directly. One of our experts will be happy to run through some troubleshooting over the phone with you to identify the cause of the issue you're experiencing, and will be able to recommend the best course of action. You can call us free on 08002980298 (UK), or 1866MYDYSON (US).

There is a belt that is driven by a motor if you could find a way into the belt and motor area using a screwdriver. You can see if it is just a matter of changing the belt, or if there are other problems. Remember always unplug any machine before you work on it!

They may have picked up something really disgusting and retained it. You will have to strip them completely and throw away the bag (if there is one), then go to work with pine oil (or similar heavy-duty cleaner) to scrub the entire intake path clean. Be sure everything is dry before reassembling.
