It appears your clutch assembly has failed in this instance.
For replacement parts - head on over to PartSelect.com or RepairClinic.com and enter in your full model number for a full parts listing.
I recommend both sites because ...
FixYa has no affiliation with either site - I have been using and recommending them for years - trouble free.
PartSelect has a great schematic database for locating the part on your unit and great "testimonials" for each part that often times includes HOW-TO information.
RepairClinic has pictures of each part they sell and also a great how-to and troubleshooting for basic repairs.
If your unit has never been serviced - there should still be an original service manual enclosed in plastic taped to the inside of the shell.
In the service manual are Error codes, maintenance procedures, and troubleshooting steps you can follow.
Anything too complicated or beyond your scope should be handled by a professional.
If you think you want to tackle the repair - and have gotten stuck on a step - reply to your question and I will be glad to help you out.

F02 code
A better model number would be a great help in our trying to solve your problem but here goes.
Remove the front/lower panel by removing the screws at the very bottom of the lower panel. Then look at the the large circular drain coc^k. It has a white handle on it. You will need several towels or a shopvac standing by because water will come out during the next step:
1. Turn the handle, (*water drains now")
2. Remove the drain coc^k,
3. Remove the debris in the filter,
a. Check inside the pump where the filter was.
You will see the pump impeller towards the right side. Make sure this is also clear and I do mean look really good in this area.
. b. Also check the pump inlet hose as well as you can for socks or other debris.
4. Put the draincoc^k back in, ensuring it is tight by turning the handle.
5. Restart the machine while the lower front panel is still removed.
6. Check for leaks.
7. If the F02 code persists, you may have to replace your pump. If the F02 does persist... first try unplugging the unit for about 10 minutes then test cycle it again.

This assumes that you have a KENMORE top load, direct drive, neutral drain washers are made Whirlpool.
First, see the Sears parts site for your washer:
http://www.searspartsdirect.com/partsdirect/index.action
Enter your model number (###.######) and you'll see a list of major sub-components with diagrams and parts.
The part that I think you're speaking about is called the Lid Switch.
See the following for how to release the console and cabinet.

Filling during spin cycle
You have either a bad water level control, sand and sediment in the base of the tub, or have the water level switch wired backwards. The water level switch has a rubber tube connected to it from the base of the tub. It has 3 wires connected to it: One of them wires is common and hot all the time. The other 2 go to the motor or the water valve. When that switch is working properly it is gonna first power up the water valve. Then when pressure builds in the tube from the weight of the water the innards of that switch click over and power up the motor, shutting down the water valve. I would check that water level switch. To check the switch first find the common wire (white) then find the figure out with a meter which 2 wires have continuity. Whatever wire you find oughta be a going to that water valve. The other leg should go off to the motor and have continuity only when you blow into it. Usually the tub overflows on these controls but they on occasion just plain act ugly. LOL

My Kenmore elite model # 110 washing machine will
This assumes that you have a basic Kenmore / Whirlpool top load, direct drive, neutral drain (it doesn't spin until the pump removes most of the water) machine.
First, see the Sears parts site for your washer:
http://www.searspartsdirect.com/partsdirect/index.action
Enter your model number (110.#######) and you'll see a list of major sub-components with diagrams and parts.
Kenmore / Whirlpool top load, direct drive washers use a "Motor Coupler" between the motor and transmission. It's used as a fail safe device and consists of three parts. Two of the parts are the same, plastic units with three prongs that fit on one of the motor output shafts and the other on the transmission input shaft. Between them is a rubber piece with six holes.
The power from the motor is transmitted through the rubber piece to the transmission.
The other shaft on the motor directly drives the pump.
If the motor coupler is broken, or worn, the motor may not be able to send full power to the transmission for agitating or spinning. It will also make a noise as the plastic prongs hit each other.
See the following for how to remove the cabinet, pump, motor and motor mounting plate to inspect and replace the motor coupler.
http://www.american-appliance.com/catalog/newsdesk_info.php?newsPath=16&newsdesk_id=137
If the coupler looks damaged, it's a relatively easy fix.
Pry the plastic pieces from the motor and transmission. Some people use a claw hammer but I've found that using a small (6 inch) pry bar works well.
Carefully fit the plastic pieces over the motor and transmission shafts and press them in place (Use a 1/2" of larger socket to put pressure equally around the pieces.
Put the rubber piece on the transmission plastic piece.
Replace the motor mounting plate.
Carefully line up the plastic prongs on the motor based plastic piece to the three un-used holes in the rubber piece. If they don't line up right, the coupler could be damaged.
Mount the motor, don't forget the two screws, put the pump back on the motor and use its' clips.
Put the cabinet back on, don't forget to plug the lid switch back in and re-mount the console.
Sounds like a berring is going bad, can this be
Of course it can be repaired, but be fore warned: Parts are not cheap, but the labor is worse. Even an experienced service tech who has done these before and has all the parts and tools on hand will still need two hours to do the repair. I'd rate this one a 8 on a 1 - 10 difficulty scale. (real pain in the ****)
If I were you, I'd look into the LG front loaders, but avoid Sears (Home Depot, Best Buy, etc, are not much better). The smaller independent dealers will usually match the big box prices, know a lot more about the product, and be able to give you good quality prompt service down the road. Service from those others **** big time.
Replace lid switch on kenmore washing machine top load model #110.24962301
Thats a simple one to replace. Unplug unit. Take a putty knife and release clips that secure console to top. They are located on each front corner of console. Raise lid. Unplug harness from switch. Take ground screw out that is part of switch assembly. Release plastic tab that holds switch in place and remove switch. Install and snap into place new switch with lid open. Put ground screw back in place and plug harness back into place. Lower lid and then raise and listen for clicking noise. Put console back in place. That’s it.
Kenmore filled up with water then quit working?
Question edited for clarity.
'then', a moment in time.
'than', a comparison between one thing and another.
It depends on the model, but usually related to the lid lock. Also check the breaker.
Why does my washer stop working after filling with water?
If the Top Load Washer stops after filling with water, be sure to check the house circuit breaker/fuse as well as the outlet and plug. Washers should be plugged into their own separate, dedicated outlet.

Kenmore washer 110.20022013 stops after wash cycle
Usually it's the lid switch..When you open the lip look straight down usually..When you close the lid it inserts a small plastic piece that goes into the hole telling the washer the lids down..If it broke it will make the washer stop mid cycle..You can stick a wooden (only made of wood) into the hole and sometimes it will start to work..Then you know that's the problem and just get your model number of the washer and replace it..Hope this helps
Kenmore 98702 center won't drain when using cold water cycle.
Troubleshooting: Check the drain hose: Ensure that the drain hose is not clogged or kinked. If it is, straighten it out and remove any blockages.
Inspect the drain pump: Check the drain pump for any debris or foreign objects that may be blocking it. Clean it out if necessary.
Check the lid switch: Ensure that the lid switch is functioning properly. If it is faulty, it may prevent the machine from starting the drain cycle.
Check the waste hose: Ensure that the waste hose is not clogged. A clogged waste hose can prevent water from flowing out of the machine.
If this troubleshooting does not work, you may have to turn to professional assistance from a repairman.
