Kenmore 70 Series Washer

My washer recently has not been spinning all of the water out of the clothes. I took some of the clothes out and put it in for a second spin and the drum would not move. I had to have only 2 towels in there for it to spin and the water was still not coming out. I have cleaned it out with a rag. There doesn't seem to be any water laying in the bottom of the washer; it just won't come out of the clothes. These were not big loads either. Thanks

Kenmore 80 series heavy duty super capacity plus

The washer does not drain the water out after the wash cycle. It started a month ago not spinning the water out enough but now it simply doesn't do it at all. This is weird to me because I can put the washer on the regular wash cycle and it works. It won't release the water or spin out after the wash cycle. Any help you can give me I really appreciate. I'm stuck with a washer full of water.

The machine make a loud clanging grinding noise, and it will not spin or agitate. What could it be. It is 10 years old and this is the first problem I have had with it.

You most likely have a broken coupler between the motor and gearcase.
You can buy the part for about $10 or have someone come out and replace it for about $150-200.
If you will post the complete model number from the the washer so I can see which style cabinet you have, I will try to walk you through the repair. It isn't very complicated if you are handy with home repairs.
With the age of the machine it probably just needs a coupler, but it could also have a problem in the transmission or basket drive that has caused the failure.

Kenmore Washing Machine fills with water then just stops

I have a Kenmore (mod# 110.24722300) that will fill up with water and then stop. There is no noise and it literally just sits there. I even tried manually turning the dial to jump start it to a cycle but I get nothing. Lately I have noticed that it has been making a clicking noise in between cycles and taking a few minutes longer than normal to go from one cycle to the next. The machine is not quite 4 years old. fills w/ water and stops.

The symptoms you describe are typical of a lid switch malfunction. The lid switch is usually located on the right hand side under the cabinet. It is activated by a plastic piece on the lid (called a "Lid Strike") through a small hole on the right side of the wash tub opening. Make sure the lid strike is still on the lid and intact, first. Then, check the mounting screws that hold the lid switch in place (two screws along the tub rim on the right hand side). Often all that is required is to tighten up the mounting screws and this will realign the lid switch where it can be properly activated by the lid strike. If the lid switch is broken, you can find a replacement at searspartsdirect.com. Just type in your model number and look under the "Top and Cabinet" heading for item number 11 for the lid switch and item number 20 for the lid strike (if needed). If you do not wish to order online, take the part numbers provided by Sears and go to your nearest appliance parts retailer. These are common parts that most will carry in their store inventory. The following link explains how to replace the switch:

http://www.fixya.com/support/r385198-replacing_lid_switch

This is a very inexpensive repair that you can easily accomplish on your own. I hope you find this information helpful. If you require additional assistance, please let me know.

PS This is a common problem experienced by this line of washing machines. To prevent future failures, do not slam the washer lid or place anything heavy on the lid. Repeatedly slamming the lid to get it to work, or manipulating the timer can also cause more potential problems.

Kenmore Elite Calypso wont drain

Kenore Elite Calypso Wont Drain

Oh the dreaded calypso pump...Seen that one a million times. Pumps get clogged pretty easily. Try to get the water out manually first. Than push the washer back and lean it against the wall so that you can access the bottom. Remove the 3 screws. Bottom panel should come off. The pump is on the right, its black. Get ready with a shop vac or alot of towels, theres gonna be a flood. There are 2 clamps on black hoses that need to be taken off so that you can slide the hoses off the pump. Next remove the 3 bolts that hold the pump in place. Next lower the pump out of the hole it sits in. Youll have to follow the wiring harness up and disconnect it. Now you can try and clen out the pump or replace it. Part # is 285990. Costs about 75.00. Hope that helps. Let me know if yiu need more help. Dave www.washermd.com

Clothing stuck on agitator with top loading washing machine

How do I remove the agitator so that I can unwrap the clothing form the agitator of a Kenmore top loading washing machine.

Dear Whitworth,

The agitator's movement back and forth is important for the cleaning of your laundry. If it doesn't function properly, your clothes won't be as clean as possible. If your agitator does not move, moves only in one direction or its movement is very weak, you will probably need to remove the agitator. Furthermore, in order to inspect the tub for leaks, the clutch assembly, the splines, or to remove the spin drum, you will have to remove the agitator.

The agitator is fastened to the agitator shaft and its movement is driven either by splines or a simple clutch assembly. The splines are usually plastic or rubber nubs on a cylinder that fits over the agitator shaft. If the nubs wear down, the shaft will not turn properly or it will turn weakly. If the agitator is moving in only one direction, the likely cause is the clutch assembly. The clutch has dogs that depress and pop up with each turn. If those dogs are worn, they will not engage properly and the agitator will turn only in one direction.
Various makes and models differ in how the agitator is removed. In some newer models, the agitator just lifts straight up and out. However, in most models you will have to do some combination of the following steps. First remove the fabric softener dispenser, if any. It should either lift or screw off. Next remove the cap. It may lift off, screw off or failing that, it may need to be pried off.
Beneath the cap some agitators are secured in place by a bolt. Use a socket wrench with an extension to remove that bolt. Some Maytags may have a screw near to the bottom of the agitator post that must be removed. Now try to lift the agitator straight up, possibly with a little back and forth rocking motion. Use caution when pulling, the agitator may come loose suddenly and hit you in the face or send you flying backward.
If the agitator is particularly stubborn, you can loop some rope under one side of the agitator at the bottom and then up over a broom handle. Now loop it again under the other side of the agitator and back up to the broom. Brace one end of the broom handle against the top of the washer and lift up on the other end. Double check that you have removed anything that may be securing the agitator in place. Do not use too much force or you may damage the washer cabinet, agitator or injure yourself.

I used to work for Sears as a home repair technician and washers and dryers were my specialty. Most likely the problem is with your water pump. I ran across this issue many times and what happens is people leave things in their pockets and it destroys the pump. A hair pin or coins, I have even seen socks and under ware get stuck in them causing leaks. What you want to do is tip the machine back and look at the pump. It is located right at the front of the washer with two hoses connected to it. You will want a pair of hose clamps though if you don't want water all over your floor. Disconnect the pump and look inside it for anything causing the motor inside to not work, this will cause slow draining and even leaking. If it looks clear then look for any cracks in the pump. If there is a crack then it needs to be replaced. Just call your local appliance repair place and tell them what you need. Pumps run around 30 bucks or less on average for Kenmore's. If everything looks good on the pump check the hoses that run from the pump and make sure there are no cracks or holes in the hoses. If they look good then the only thing left is the tub and the overflow tube. Chances are though that your pump is what the problem is and it is an easy fix. Good luck.

OK - I have a solution to my problem with this washing machine. Nothing would work except for one of the spin cycles. I thought it was the main switch - the cycle selection and start switch - but I was wrong. The service tech replaced the switch behind the fabric softener. It's the switch that controls the water levels. Part # W10292584. Our government is forcing the manufacturers to put controls on the washing machine to save water. It's a bad idea and is causing lots of problems. Tech says he's replacing them on a regular basis. Less than $100 if you do it yourself. Hope this helps.
