Any laptop should run with a cord (that is functioning properly) whether there is a battery installed or not. Have you checked the charger to verify that it is putting out the proper amperage?

It uses the integrated 440x 10/100 chip, you have mentioned 4 different laptops here, all use the same chipset, so the drivers should be the same.

Could it be overheating, and automatically shutting-down, to avoid damage?
Shut it down.
Disconnect the AC power.
Remove the battery.
Purchase a can of compressed air, and give your computer a "blow-job", shooting compressed air into every orifice, to remove all the dust that could be acting like a layer of "insulation", preventing your computer from cooling itself.

Hi,

After you format the drive you need to go to DOS and load DOS with CDROM support, then launch Windows through the command prompt
D:\I836\winnt.exe
the D may be another drive letter, but that should start your install.

It is hard from your post to de-cipher your actual problem or request but I will do my best

Internal wireless adapters on laptops and notebooks do not connect to external antenna. They use their own and altering them could cause damage to the adapter or worse.

If you have had your laptop open and been inside t then you really should have noted the path of the wires down before disconnection

You could get the service manual from the support section on the dell website which may help you.

OR

If you mean that you cannot connect to your router then you should check that the channel on your router does not conflict with anyone else nearby and that if it has an option for auto channel selection that you enable it.

Check that there are no other wireless devices nearby telephones, baby alarms, etc etc. Check also that there are not too many obstructions between your laptop and the router esp. large metal ones.

You might want to try moving the router to a better location too.

Hi first my question is if the wireless setting is secured. If it is you have to enter the wep key or passphrase to the laptop. if you don't know what is the wep or passphase you may open the web browser and enter this ip address 192.168.1.1 and the user id is admin but this time you have to find out the password. wants that you get in click the wireless security tab and the info is there. Wants that you have enter this info to your new laptop this is will work. Also you may do is right click the network connection, click the property. click internet protocol (TCP/IP) click property and make sure that the setting is on obtain an ip address automatic then click close. I hope this info will help you solve the problem.

light should be green instead of orange. check in your device manager to make sure the driver is installed for the ethernet adapter, if it is then you know the motherboard is bad cause the ethernet adapter is connected to the motherboard.

If the driver for the ethernet adapter is not installed then go to support.dell.com and from there go into the drivers section, type in your model and then download the driver for your laptop and install it and then see if you can connect. If you do this and you still can't connect then that still means the ethernet adapter is bad and the motherboard would still have to be replaced.

If you've reloaded or upgraded Windows, you might not actually have the correct video driver installed (the display will work with the generic drivers in Windows). Go to www.dell.com, click on Support and put your Service Tag in. That exactly identifies the hardware. Look for Downloads and/or Drivers, then scroll down to find the Video Driver.
