If you try and reset it by unplugging for 30 min and then plugging it back in and it does not respond, then most likely you had a voltage spike and caused damage to one of the main boards. The power supply board is the most likely to be damaged, it will be the one the power cord is connected to. Look this board over for any signs of damage or capacitors that may be bulging or split or even leaking. these sets are very sensitive to voltage spikes and you will be miles ahead if you protect them with a top quality surge protector, not the cheap ones you see in the dept stores. If you still have warranty have it sent in for repair and do not mention any storms when this went out.

some sets will have an option to turn off the speakers (different from mute); this is used when you want your tv to output to a sound system with external speakers. check your menu settings for something which disables tv speakers--that is probably your issue.

Everytime I see this condition it turns out to be the screen itself. This cannot be repaired unless you can find a good used screen somewhere.

Testing remote control:
The remote control puts out IR (InfraRed) signal that human eyes cannot see, to find out if the remote is sending out the signal or not you just point the remote at the digital camera's Lens (Digital Camera can detect IR), you should see flashing light on the camera's screen when any one of the remote button is pushed. If you do see the flashing on the camera, then the problem is in the TV IR receiver or the main logic board; more troubleshooting with scope will be needed to look at the signals.

Vizio remote stop working
My remote stopped working too. A universal remote from my cable provider also didn't work, so I assumed the problem was in the television itself.
The power going to the outlet was old and lacked a ground. I just rewired the outlet going to the TV with new Romex that is properly grounded and voila!

Hi.
Use the Source or Input (depending on model) button on the remote , and try browsing sources.
If still no luck, try checking cable connections at the back. Test using different devices connected and connection cable.
Try disconnecting power cord for ten minutes.
If after all this the TV still has no picture, then you may have a defective main controller board, in that case call Vizio at the number listed on the owner manual.
Test the TV using at least two different devices, and two different cables first. Also reset it disconnecting power.
If you are using the TV internal tuner, ensure you have selected right source, and that the aerial cable is well connected.

I hope not but:
this is probably a failure from the screen or the electronic parts that control the videosignals.
i think having a specialist or the tecnical service from vizio taking a look at it will be best and safest.
