Sony DVP-SR200P DVD Player - Page 7 Questions & Answers
I'm a senior citizen and bought a very simple DVD
This player has the typical composite and component TV connections. If you have an older standard TV, you will need a composite to RF TV adaptor. If you have a newer widescreen HD Television, you should be able to connect the composite or component cables to it directly Composite is the 3 video cable bundle (Red, Green, Blue), and composite is the yellow single connection. Audio connects via the standard white/red connectors. If your TV is newer and supports multiple inputs, make sure you can switch to the input you are connected to via the TV remote! Check your manuals.
Putr dicic in makes rubbing noise wont play
The laser and mechanism are out of alignment. Did you drop this or some how, did it take a blow of some kind? You can take the cover off after you unplug the machine and check to see if something is causing the disc tray to be out of alignment. If the machine can't read the disc for some reason or another it will also make a bunch of noise while the laser is moving trying to pick up the starting point on a disc, Have you tried more than one disc?
HOW CAN I CHANGE THE
If you bought in the last one year (or upgraded the firmware during this time) then it cannot be unlocked - the firmware has been specifically modified to prevent the only 2 previous hacks:
1 - With the DVD player turned off(stand by), press: TOP MENU - CLEAR - POWER . Choose option 2 and after that option 4. Type:12450 - press enter. Type:00000 - Then press enter and power off.
2 - Switch on the player . Pop open the CD compartment . Enter the following code (using the remote): 2812 . Highlight the region . Change to 9 (for Multi-region) using the 'Enter' button . Hit 'Clear' to exit
When playing a certain DVD, it stops very briefly

Do you have the player directly connected to the TV or plugged into a receiver / surround sound system? When you say it's working what do you mean, just that it turns on and appears to be functioning but no sounds or video comes out of the device?
Please let me know how you have it hooked up and I can help you out here.
Just reply to my answer and I will be right back with you.
Thanks
Tim

Need to unlock region restrictions so unit is
Sorry, but like a number of Sony models yours is not hackable as the region coding is locked into the unit at the basic hardware level. Changing the region coding requires either internal hardware changes (not cost effective) or a special Sony engineer's remote control which is very expensive and only supplied to authorised Sony Service Centres. It's cheaper to buy a replacement DVD player with the correct coding.
You must either use a different player to watch other region DVDs (cheap, own brand, supermarket players are often easily hackable but search the model number online prior to purchase to be sure) or must use commercially available software to back up your DVDs, creating copies which have no region coding. This type of software is widely available but is never free other than on a limited functionality trial basis.
