Hello
I'm thinking it's that you have to hold it down the whole time you want to stitch in reverse,if not,
The most common cause of machine misbehavior is - believe it or not - the needle. So swap it out. I don't care if it is brand new --- sometimes they are bad from the manufacturer. It is such a simple fix and one that you need to learn right now -- when in doubt -- change it out!
Be sure to install the needle the right way. There is a flat side that needs to hit the adjusting screw so that it doesn't wiggle around when sewing.
Next - be sure that you have threaded the machine correctly - go back and look at the owner's manual and re-thread the machine -- leaving about a 2-3" tail after going through the eye of the needle from front to back.
Now - for the bobbin -- is this the bobbin that came with the machine? If you purchased new ones - are they the right size - it doesn't go well with the wrong size bobbin. OK - now, did you wind it on the machine or by hand? If you did it by hand -- is it evenly, tightly wound. Are you using standard thread or are you trying a specialty thread?
Did you put it into the bobbin case / holder going the right direction -- machines can get pretty finicky - so make sure that it is unwinding the correct direction. It must turn counterclockwise. If the bobbin is in backwards or upside down - easy to do on some machines, and impossible on newer models, it can cause a great deal of trouble.
Also, make sure that you have not inadvertently bumped the tension adjuster for the bobbin. This can be a stick like adjustment at the top of the machine - may be an adjustment on an LCD screen - it varies depending on the model.
Again leave a 2 - 3" tail and put it in place correctly.
Make sure that the presser foot is up - and that the feed dogs are engaged.
Now - using the hand wheel on the right side of the machine - and holding on to the upper thread tightly - move the needle up and down once to bring up the bobbin thread through the throat plate of the machine. The bobbin thread will be caught up and a loop will be visible between the presser foot and the base plate. Gently pull both threads up and to the back of the machine - out of the way of your sewing.
When you begin working on a piece of material - hold both threads firmly to the back and take the first few stitches slowly to make sure that they are not going back down the throat of the machine. Be sure NOT to try to start at the very edge -- begin about a 1/8 to 1/4" in from the edge. If you are doing quilt work and only using a 1/4" seam - then back up after starting and come forward again. If you are using a traditional 5/8" seam allowance - no worries
What's wrong with my machine New Home SW2018 thread doesn't seem to catch the bobbin and the stitches are huge.
There could be several reasons why the thread on your New Home SW2018 sewing machine is not catching the bobbin and the stitches are coming out too large. Here are a few possible causes and things you can try to troubleshoot the issue:
- Bobbin tension is too tight or too loose: The tension on the bobbin should be just right in order for the thread to catch and form proper stitches. Check the bobbin tension and make sure it is set correctly.
- Needle is not properly inserted or is damaged: Make sure the needle is fully inserted and tightened in the machine, and that it is not bent or damaged.
- Upper thread is not properly threaded: Make sure the upper thread is properly threaded through the tension discs and the take-up lever.
- Machine is not properly lubricated: Lack of lubrication can cause the machine to perform poorly and produce uneven stitches. Make sure the machine is lubricated according to the manufacturer's instructions.
- Machine is not set to the correct stitch length or width: Check the stitch settings on the machine and make sure they are set to the correct length and width for your project.
I hope this information is helpful. If you have tried these troubleshooting steps and are still experiencing problems, it may be best to seek the help of a qualified sewing machine repair technician. They will be able to diagnose and fix any issues with your machine.

There could be a few reasons why the stitches on your New Home 910 sewing machine are tight and the fabric is not feeding forward properly. Here are a few things you can try:
- Check the tension: Make sure that the tension on your sewing machine is properly adjusted. The tension controls how tightly the thread is pulled through the fabric. If the tension is too loose, the stitches will be too loose, and if it is too tight, the stitches will be too tight. You can refer to your sewing machine manual or a tension chart to help you adjust the tension properly.
- Check the needle: Make sure that you are using the correct needle size and type for the fabric you are sewing. Using the wrong needle can cause the stitches to be too tight or too loose, or it can cause the fabric to bunch or pucker.
- Clean and oil the machine: Make sure that you are regularly cleaning and oiling your sewing machine to keep it in good working order. Debris or lint can build up in the machine and cause problems with the stitching.
- Check the feed dogs: The feed dogs are the small teeth that move the fabric through the machine as you sew. Make sure that they are not clogged or damaged, and that they are properly aligned with the needle.
- Seek professional help: If you have tried these steps and are still experiencing problems with your sewing machine, it may be necessary to seek the help of a professional. A qualified sewing machine technician will be able to diagnose and repair any issues with your machine.
I was given a New Home Memory Craft 7500. I have no manual.
I believe it's related to the feed dogs. Remove the needle plate and clean the area of any debris. If you recently broke a needle, a piece of needle may have jammed the feed dog mechanism.
The manual is available as free download with no registration required at the following;
