My USN WWII individual focus 7x50 oculars were hard to turn. I turned too hard. Now one unscrews all the way out. Can it be fixed?
I have a set of Steiner Military Marine 7X50 binoculars and now they don't seem to be focusing "together" If you look through one eye cup it looks fine, same as the opposite side. But when you look through them together they seem distorted and uneven in however they combine the eyes together? I believe they may be out of warrantee if they only had 10 year limited. Any ideas? I can't afford to send them out for a costly repair right now. If in fact something like this would be very costly - hopefully it is something simple??
Your binoculars either have a bent or broken yoke assembly (the bit which carries the eyepieces) or one or more prisms have came unseated.
The first repair involves replacing the entire yoke assembly: the part is expensive in comparison to the retail cost of a new pair of binoculars and with labour charges on top is not usually a cost-effective repair except on really high end expensive models.
The second repair is straightforward and fairly quick for anyone with the right collimation equipment, but the screw(s) need to be secured with thread-locking liquid afterwards.
I hope you manage to use this information to fix your binoculars or at least that it assists you to choose your next course of action. Please take a moment to rate the free answer I have provided for you and any testimonial which you might wish to add is always welcome!
