Hello,
Try doing a reset on the nuvi by pressing and holding the power button on for at least 10 seconds.
Installing and running the Garmin WebUpdater and reloading the latest update will resolve most issues.
Download and Install WebUpdater.
Garmin Nuvi 1200 does not have a qwerty keyboard,
I have a Nuvi 1100 and I added the qwerty keyboard editing the british english keyboard file(en_GB.kbd). Open it with wordpad and change the "true" with a "false" like this:
<group name="QWERTY" priority="1" wide_screen_only="false">
Then, go to tools, settings, language and change it to british english and you are done!

You can try to reset the 1200. You can reset by pressing and holding the power button until it reboots.
If that does not work you can try a hard reset but it will clear out some of your favorites and saved locations back to like when it was new.
Power off the unit; then while holding your finger on the lower right
corner of the screen while turning it back on.
Keep your finger pressed until a window appears. Choose YES to clear all data and return the 1200 back to factory settings. I will attach the Garmin customer support info.
Thanks for using FixYa.

I HAVE A NUVI 1200.
Hello,
It sounds liek your unit may be defective I would reccommend trying to give it a firmware update using Garmins WebUpdater Software. If you are not able to connect it to the PC it would have to be sent in for warranty or repair. Here is a
link to the Garmin software.
Hope this helps!

No power at all?
Check your lighter socket to see if it's getting power (plug lighter in and see if it gets hot).
Check the power plug on the provided cable. It contacts a fuse that may either be missing or blown. And last, check the connection of the cable as it plugs in the rear of the Nuvi.
I was driving home today and our Nuvi1200 said it
The connectors are alway a weak point on these devices, you need to check the lead is ok and that the power is on on your cigarette lighter socket. Also worth checking the fuse in it if not.
Murphys law is things will always fail at the worst possible time.
When you are home check that the device can be powered by your computer or a charger.
Then you will know if its the lead or device.

If the problem persists after the reset to factory setting then hard fault is present in the GPS circuitry and this will require the GPS be sent back to Garmin for service and repair, they offer an exchange service to speed up down time. Below is the service contact number for Garmin. The cost to repair is available there as well.
