My termperature adjustment knob (the one that slides left/right) broke off. Does anyone know where I can get a replacement part? Any other solutions other than carving a wood or plastic replacement?

Brand new & carefully unpacked from factory box. Put 1.5 liters of oil in it, tried to plug the main wire into my cooking area's electrical outlet. And made sure the basket unit was firmly plugged into its connector. But oil did not heat at all....

The pilot will light, but goes out after releasing the control knob. Detached lead to the pilot electrode, resistance characteristics similar to known good electrode.
