Only one handset can be registered at a time. The handset ID for the supplied handset(s) was assigned at the factory, which has #1 or #2 in the display (#2 for models that have two handsets in packaging). When you register additional handset to the base, the handset ID will be assigned. 1) Before registering the extra handset, the battery pack must be charged for 15-20 hours. 2) Place the extra handset in the main base unit to begin registration. 3) While the handset is registering, Handset Registering will appear in the LCD. The older Tru8885 phones will not work with the new base unit. My recommendation would be to ebay those and then buy new ones or find replacements for your new base on ebay also.
De-register/register
To De-register handset while original base present:
-Use De-register menu
To De-register handset without original base present:
-Press and hold "End" button, and while holding that, press and hold # as well.
OR
-Remove battery
-While holding * and # replace battery, and keep holding
-You should hear one beep (let go now)
-Press right menu soft button (at top)
-Should hear one beep and Clear EEPROM/RAM on screen
-Remove and replace battery once again (no need to hold any buttons now)
(USING ANY OF THE TWO METHODS ABOVE MEANT FOR NON-BASE PRESENT, WHILE BASE IS PRESENT WILL TAKE UP HANDSET SPACE ON BASE, eg. HS1 will become HS2, while base reserves HS1 name... a base reset will be required to deal with this).
Resetting the base itself (if you have any handsets deregister them normally before this)
-Unplug power
-Hold 'Delete Messages' key while plugging power back until beep (88 or 0 messages may show)
-Press PLAY once
(To check that all went well, check to see if anything shows under ROOM MONITOR, nothing should be there)
