Unfortunately with those body comp scales too many things can affect the reading and are not really reliable. If she drank water or even took a shower/bath before it changes the results. But by chance does she have implants? I have them and read at 26% in either mode but actually with calipers i am 14%. i would use the normal mode majority of the time (athletic is someone who has low body fat or highly active) or just use calipers as it gives a more acurate number :)

This is caused by impedances measurements error. please make sure the feets are not dry. Try to spray little water on the platform before the measurement. If error still there you need to do impedance calibration.
