Completely unplug the dishwasher and leave disconnected for at least 10 mins.
Also be sure to check the drain pipe is not kinked or obstructed and that the filter is also clean and empty

Cycle starts, soap box does not open. Cycle will

Hello Paul,

There are a few possibilities here but I really need a little bit more detail from you and you're going to need to do some testing to determine the cause of the fault - or faults. You're going to need a Torx T20 screwdriver and a multi-meter which can measure volts and ohms for this.

The endless cycle times are commonly due to a fault in the water heating circuitry, but this could be anywhere from the heater relay on the timer/controller to a defective water heater. The failure of the detergent dispenser to open could also be due to a defective controller, but it could be the detergent dispenser release mechanism or the actuator for the dispenser that is defective.

There are so many possibilities here, I need to eliminate some before making any further suggestions. Please could you answer the following questions to assist me in solving your problem.

1. Your country - to determine power supply voltage and whether the dishwasher is hot or cold fill.
2. The model number of the dishwasher for component locations and disassembly instructions.
3. Is the water getting hot during a wash cycle?
4. Does the detergent dispenser open on any of the shorter wash cycles?
5. Do you have - or can you borrow - the tools Iisted above?

The best place to start would be to test the soap dispenser and a visual inspection of the PCB in the timer/controller for a burned out pin on the heater relay (more common in US models).

Please reply to me with these details and I'll get back to you asap.

BElectric

Machine will not empty water

Remove the bottom strainers plates and make sure that the outlet pipe is not kinked, that there is nothing obstructing the pipe or the pump or selector valve. If possible back flush through the outlet pipe and try draining the machine once more before using it again.

Lower spray arm partially blocked

Hi,

If it's a Bosch as listed above, the lower spray arm simply pulls off. Grip the spray arm near the centre, give it a sharp tug. To refit, insert the shaft into the hole, push down on the centre and make sure it clicks home.

belectric_179.jpg
To clean inside the spray arm, you can also separate the arm from the shaft to give better access. There are 4 plastic clips, holding the arm to the shaft (I've ringed one in the image below). Insert a blunt table knife or flat bladed screwdriver behind each clip and gently lever it off. It's easiest to get one side partly off first , then do the other side. Be careful with these - on older washers the plastic can be quite brittle and the clips break more easily.

Hope this helps. If you need further assistance - or you don't have a Bosch dishwasher - please let me know.

How do you take out

Hi,

Just slip something flat and blunt under the edge and lever it out gently. A table knife will do it, but I generally use something wider, e.g. a scraper as pictured below.

Once you've removed the mesh screen, the second filter simply lifts out.

Apologies for the state of this washer. It's an old one I dismantled for instructional purposes!

Hope this helps. If you can't find the cause of the problem and need further assistance, please let me know.

Do you have any idea

Hi there,

The "1" is actually an error code indicating a fault in the water heating circuits. The endless cycle means the water isn't reaching the desired temperature or, in some cases, the controller isn't receiving the correct signal to indicate the water has reached the correct temperature. If the water doesn't reach the desired temperature, the wash cycle wont advance and the "1" will be displayed.

This is usually due to a failing (or failed) water heater or a fault in the control module. Often, one of the pins for the heater relay has burned out on the PCB causing a dry joint. This can sometimes be re-soldered. Occasionally, it can also be a fault with the NTC water temperature sensor (Negative Temperatire Co-effecient), but this is less common.

There are some simple tests you can do without any disassembly or electrical testing.

- If you have an RCD (residual current detector) fitted locally to the dishwasher or in your fuse box / consumer unit, a failing or failed water heater would usually trip this. If an RCD is fitted and is not being tripped, I would start with a visual examination of the solder joints for the heater relay on the control module

- Check whether the water is getting hot. Start a quick wash cycle and leave it to run for about 10-15 minutes. Then open the door and check for the presence of steam and/or test the water in the bottom of the washer by hand. It should be hot, not luke-warm.

These are only simple checks to determine the best place to start looking for the fault. You will still need to do some further testing to find the exact cause of the fault. This will require some dis-assembly of the dishwasher and you will also need a Torx T20 screwdriver and a multi-meter for electrical testing of the water heater.

If you have these tools and would like to try fixing this yourself, please let me know. If you are in the UK, the control module and water heater are about £100 each to replace, so you should take into account of the age of the washer before replacing these. The control module can be replaced fairly easily on a DIY basis, however the water heater and NTC are significantly more difficult and may be best left to a professional service engineer.

If you need further assistance. Please could you also confirm the correct model number of the dishwasher (I don't recall the SGS43C12 having a digital time display) and whether you are on a 120 or 220-240 volt supply.

Hope this helps.

I have a dish washer that i changed the inlet

I would start with the float and or float switch.

I believe the Bosch model the float is located on the left hand side ....you will need to pull out the unit and take off the side cover. There you will see the float....ensure it moves up and down freely.
The switch should be located just below it.

It will change states when activated. Can't remember if it is N.O. or N.C.

Please post results.

When cycle is finished there

Hi and welcome to FixYa I am Kelly.

Water in the bottom of the unit is a sign of drain problems that are usually external to the dishwasher. You probably have noticed cloudy or spotted dishes post cycle lately also. Since I suspect a drain problem here is what you should do:
  • Start at the sink connection and remove the hose. Then clean out the port at the sink or garbage disposal connection. Reconnect the hose. (Clogged garbage disposal ports are the 2nd highest reason for dishwasher drainage problems.)
  • Next if you have an Air-Gap installed pull off the upper/outer cover and NOTE the position of the internal cap and nut. The cap with the inner inverted U will only install correctly in one position. Remove the nut and lift off the inner inverted U cap. (This is were most clogs are found.) Clean out any debris found. Use a flash light and inspect the lower outlet hose port for obstructions. Remove the lower outlet hose to the sink / garbage disposal connection if necessary to clean the outlet port.
  • Lastly... If after doing the above and you still have water in the dishwasher post drain cycle then TURN OFF POWER to the dishwasher and remove the lower kick panel. The remove the drain hose from the pump and inspect the port for obstructions. Clean as necessary. Re-install the removed hoses. (Check all) Install the lower kick panel.
TURN ON POWER and test the drain cycle after filling with water. This should make it work properly again unless there is a problem with the pump impeller blades or something inside the sump housing blocking the drain port. If you have done all of the above and you still have the same water in the sump post drain cycle problem... Just respond here and I will explain what to do next.

Thanks for choosing FixYa,
Kelly

Dishwasher not filling with water

Hi.

Check if it is filling. If there is no water inlet check lines at the back. If water source is OK, then the inlet valve can be tested reading Ohms at its terminal. If valve is open it must be replaced.

If the water inlet is OK, then the float switch may be responsible. The function of the float switch is detecting the water level. If this part is defective, it may wrongly detect overfill, stopping cycle at start. The float switch can be tested jumping its contacts and running a controlled cycle or reading impedance at contacts while operating the arm.

If water inlet and float switch are OK check the lid switch. Check if the lid is well closed. To test the lid switch properly you should use a volt meter or an Ohm meter on the switch.

If the lid all other parts are OK, then it is usually a defective timer module. The control board is replaced only if there is a specific error code, or if all the rest is tested and OK. The most common causes for this problem are in order:

Inlet hose.
Float switch.
Inlet valve.
Lid switch.
