Need diagram for routing new fuel lines on craftsman chainsaw model 358.36012. Lines have rotted away.
There is two sizes of line. I see the large one goes to the large port on the primer button and then to the fuel tank. The small one goes from the primer button to the carb. The problem is there are two hose connections on the carb. I believe one is a vent, but I am not sure what one it is. I have a 36cc 2-cycle model 358.352161

how do i find the model number on my poulan chainsaw the serial number is 04259d200456-2
If you entered the 42CC 18" it is a PP4218(AV, AVHD or AVL) Gas Saw Type 2. The letters after the 18 correspond to the type of chain tensioning system.

The dash number of your serial number is the type. Match the "Handle, Chassis and Bar Assembly" with your saw to complete the IPL.
An OM and less detailed IPL for your saw can be found here:

Type just the model numbers (choose the suffix after the list is provided).

You may need to use a jumper wire between the threaded part of the plug and the cooling fins. You do not have to bend up the electrode.
Ignition module gap
Place a business or index card between the fly wheel and coil, rotate until the magnetic attraction pulls everything tight together. Tighten the coil screws, rotate the flywheel until the attraction eases and remove the card. Ensure nothing contacts when the flywheel is rotated.

What is the file size for the Poulan Pro 42cc 18" saw? The user manual only says take it to a service center for sharpening. Hours of on line searching didn't give a result.
5/32 inch diameter round file

My pull start cord won't retract. How do I fix it
Remove the starter assembly from the engine and pull the cord out--it should have spring resistance to pulling. If nothing, the rewind spring may be broken, or it may have pulled loose from one of the attachment points. Remove the cord from the pull handle and unwind it from the spool if it isn't already pulled out. Remove the spool from the frame to expose the spring--check the ends for breakage and the attachment points for damage (one will be on the under side of the spool). Repair or replace any damaged components and assemble the spring into the attachments. Wind the spool/spring about 2-turns CW, then wedge it to prevent unwinding. Fit the cord back into the spool and wind it CW until the cord has about 8" or so to feed out through the cord port. Fit the cord end back into the handle, tie an overhand knot, and push the knot into the handle bore. Remove the spool wedge and try pulling the cord several times to make sure it goes out and back smoothly. Return the starter to the engine and attempt starting. Hope this helps!

how to connect fuel lines
I can't give you an actual diagram but a I can try to explain how it should go. There is a line with the filter in the tank that goes to the bottom of the carb, there is another line from the carb that goes to the in port of the primer bulb, the out side of the primer bulb will go back down into the fuel tank. The primer will pull gas from the tank through the carb into the bulb then return the gas from the bulb to the tank

using to much oil
To adjust the automatic oil flow, Turn the chainsaw upside down. Turn the screw marked with a "+" or "-" toward the "+" sign. If too much oil is present turn the screw toward the "-" sign. Repeat the oil test and adjust as necessary.
