Sandra, according to Dupont, the developer of if the teflon coating, if coating is damaged and/or flaking on any pot, pan or appliance, it's best not to continue using it.

Please as silly as it sounds check the fuse in the plug and check the cable for any possible breaks. The timer is mechanical on this so does not require power to work.
